I recently went to my music shop because I needed a compact reverb pedal. They didnt have any but had a bunch of delay pedals. I spent the next 15 minutes making jokes about delay pedals. When I left I said goodbye goodbye goodbye goodbye goodbye with a fade out while walking away. Guy didnt laugh ! I'll keep telling this story until a musician laughs. Thank you Colin for these videos, I'm glad you keep the level of quality this high through the years, it's truly inspiring ❤

The reason I am a Patreon to your channel, of all the guitar nerd and gear channels, is because you always present things with an interesting, expanded POV. Everyone else just demoed the SDE-3. Some compared it to its big brother. You gave us mini history lesson that gives us all a better appreciation for what it's doing and why.

This may be the greatest pedal video on the internet. Great work, love the detail, research and methodology. I had never really understood the Boss lineage or relationship before. Fantastic! I was not aware of the SDE pedal, but it sounds fantastic!

Excellent vid. I clicked on it to hear about the new SDE-3, but stayed for the history lesson 😁 Boss really do make great delays...my personal fave is the lo-fi and quirky PS-2, which somehow manages to be both a pitch shifter/octave pedal AND a delay that doesn't sound like any other that I've heard (digital or analogue). I had no idea that their first rackmount delay unit was so versatile though! It blows my mind that they made such a modern-looking (and -sounding) thing way back then.

I enjoyed every minute of this, my first delay was as a boss DM2w and since its custom switch broke I’ve held on to it trying to get it repaired at some point. No landfill because I’m a sentimental pedal lover with some of them. Hearing the history and also the focus on both the tape and rack mount versions with boss reapproaching to add in the features they once failed to do in moving to the pedal enclosure version in this latest release. I was already tempted to look into getting this one but with a further understanding of why it’s significant i definitely plan to get one..the offset and ping pong possibilities sounded fun. I can do something similar with delay control in the Strymon Dig but unlike Strymon this has stereo in and outs and not mono in stereo out 😩 Stellar as always ❤ 🙌

I never owned a tape echo, but did get to play through one a few times, and it was fun!😅 Playing along with it's timing, since it's nearly impossible for you to tweak its timing with you or a metronome, and where with many repeats you can hear it wander off.🧐 Now when you to it, and you hear it wandering off, it's you, not it, and you need to hone your timing, which it helps with.🤓 I got a Boss DD-4 or higher (don't remember) in the late 80's or early 90's, and it became part of my sound! I wouldn't leave home without it, but It just died one day and I couldn't find what went wrong !😢 I mean shy of using an oscilloscope and other more serious equipment than what I had, or de-soldering a bunch of tiny parts to check them individually on a multimeter (they were one of the first to use surface mount components) I could only guess that it was probably the Controller, and that chip was rotated 45° and had even more contacts if I remember correctly and more and smaller parts altogether!😮More and smaller parts for more features, stereo outputs, and more delay time (more memory chips).🤔 Thankfully I have even better in my DAW now, and can do even wilder shit!🤯And besides the usual drive, distortion, I love paring delay with a flanger. When you put the flangers rise and fall wave timing at equal beat division of the delay, it starts getting really cool, and in unequal ones you get polyrhythmic background weirdness! 😳 I like that!😬🥳🥳🥳

Still have my SDE-1000 that I purchased used in 1986 or 1987. I break it out every once and a while. Never did looked into the difference between the 1000 and the 3000. My go to DD now is the DD-200.

The SDE-3 does what I wanted the DD-8 to do in stereo
@Apprentice_of_the_Leonine
@Apprentice_of_the_Leonine 6 күн бұрын
What specifically? Panning? The DD-8 has a secret panning mode. Power it on, then press and hold down the footswitch, and insert a cable into input B. The LED will change color to orange, and then put the mode switch on Loop, tap the footswitch, and panning mode is active for all delay types now. Also, be sure to unplug the cable from input B when you're done.
@drewmcdowell1622
@drewmcdowell1622 5 күн бұрын
@@Apprentice_of_the_Leonine I"m familiar with the modes, but dont want ping pong only, I want more offset. I actually want 2 different delays for right and left, similar to a White Tape and was considering the halo, but i currently use a re-2 into a dd-8, always on with a boss dual expression to bring up the mix. The sde-3 would do close enough for me with the space and reliability.

I don't know if this is enough for one video but here's one TATA question What is the Wattage of speaker, how does it add up or subtracts when you connect them in parallel or series? This question was bothering me when it comes to understanding the cabinets

My very first delay was the DD-5 for a few years. Then I found a lot of tap tempo analog delays since that was the sound i am still looking for. But that doesnt mean the DD series doesn't have a place in my heart in my rig.

Questions that are far too embarrasing to ask. How the hell do you dial in a guitar anp? I have always favoured the neck pickup on my strat, therefore have dialed my amp tone in from this starting point. The result of which being a bridge pickup slightly akin to an icepick through both ears. I know that I have already answered the question but please Colin, bring the science of not being a fuquit to bear and give us the definitive version of how not to make your ears weep pus. I thank you in advance .
