Amazing how personal sound is. I put a single AN Kaisei in my power supply and let it burn in for 300 hours. Then I swapped it for a standard (older) AN cap, and let that burn in. With the older version, the music was a bit "greater" and high resolution, but it was all emotionally bland, missing dimensionality and emphasis on the notes. It felt like it was designed for vast classical music and not music I listen to (like in your video). I swapped back the previous Kaisei and boom, everything hit home..rich dimensionality, instruments sounded more real, etc. And thats a single AN component, which changed my whole investment to something I didn't want and back again. Money is not what the hobby is all about, its really about crafting something specific for yourself. If you've ever eaten Michelin-star meals, are they the MOST satisfying meals? Usually not.

AMAZING sound, almost transcending the physical limitations of the loudspeakers! It's beefy, ripe but also smooth and silky and juicy! It;s like real music! Now I understand your expression "they just fill your room with music"! I'm also happy to hear it's very much close to the sound-species I've come up to enjoy from my own system, after 25 years of developement, only this one, of AudioNote, is more free from sweet-spot and placement limitations! That's great! I'm trying to figure out the mystery of how the reflections from such a very close-to-wall proximity do not finally mess up with the direct signal and stereo image! Again, AMAZING SYSTEM!! Congrats for the presentation too! Two thumbs up!

Full Ranger You got all of that from a KZbin video?

Yes. I can tell from experience when a system plays music as it should, even from a youtube video. Also I can tell if it doesn't play well. It's not as difficult as you may think. If you already own a greatly performing system, then you already know how a great system should sound like. Then it takes some time for your acoustic memory to adjust, after watching videos of hi end systems on show. Usually the camera recordings are not top quality (elevated noise floor, compression, ambient noise, wrong-not at sweet spot-camera placement, shrinked stereo image and - and that's certainly a problem- altered tonality of the overall sound, mainly due to poor capture of bass). But, surprisingly (even to me), most of what an experienced pair of audiophile ears need, in order to make some crucial judgments, is there! For this system, it's obvious it cannot dig really-really deep down in the bass (not because of the sound I hear on youtube but because of its built- cabinet volume and size of drivers). But it still is so refined and so extremely well balanced in its harmonic performance (although a bit away from strict neutrality) , that...who does really care about that? It's pure music!

Full Ranger Thank you for your excellent, insightful post. I'm assembling a high fidelity system as we speak: Ayre QX-5 Twenty DAC/Ayre AX-5 Twenty/Nordost Valhalla 2's Interconnects and speaker cables/Vintage Electro Voice EV-6 speakers The source material will be 192/24 vinyl rips done on a high end analog rig. Apparently I'm new to Audiophilia so I was surprised that you were able to deduce all of that information from this video. Personally I don't like the sound... but I've never been a fan of digital recordings. They don't sound musical at all to me.

(this is a reply to Bradford Thornton, I just don't know how to keep it hidden, I'm sorry). I'm not an equipment reviewer but I know your selected sources are excellent. About the EV6s, don't expect to have any great stereo imaging (and possibly, not even a decent one, unless your room is very-very big) with these. Too much surface area, too many corners and edges, dead-against-the wall placement. But do expect to have a beautiful sound in your home and great parties. I understand your worries about digital. Digital is theoretically superior but in practice it does not appear to be so. Higher resolution formats are going to fix something probably missing from the initial red-book theory. See the first part of this Audio Note review. Master Qvortrup says it: THE DIGITAL SIGNAL IS VERY FRAGILE! I couldn't agree more. In fact I'd say TOO fragile! It needs a lot of delicate baby-care all through its journey. Try to place (tape) small magnet-pairs along all your digital interconnects (facing and attracting each-other, clamping the cable between them). Use one or two each time and sit back listening. Do the same on power cables if you don't use very expensive ones. Put any sofisticated vibration cancelling/absorbing gizmos you like under your electronic devices but don't forget to also try simple cheap felt or velvet too. Don't be easily frustrated, the road is long and uphill, towards audio nirvana. Merry Christmas and a very happy new year!

funny to see some companies doing more bits and higher sample freq. and AN going another way.

It is MUCH cheaper to use more bits and higher sample rates. Ironic that the goal of those companies is too produce natural analog sound yet they refuse to incorporate tubes in their designs

what i cant gather is the difference in the 1000 and 1000 of pounds spent on these type of equipment dont give improvement in sound we expect. ultimately no one talks of the musicality of the systems. here
