Not breaking your back to make someone else rich is a rational response when you know your "reward" will be more work and a below inflation payrise (if you're lucky). We're told we should accept that companies will only ever act in their own best interests yet the Tories have a hissy fit when workers do the same. The hypocrisy is astonishing.

And many years ago Will Hutton pointed out that the low rate of investment was mostly down to attitudes among the wealthy, that the only smart way to get rich was by playing the money market, instead of concerning yourself with manufacturing and exportable services. Look at the current top tier of the Tory party and they are mostly bankers, hedge fund managers and the like. Investment is decreasing further as the country tips into fascism and economic chaos.

Don't forget, that we (Germany) are the bad guys in Europe. This is what your media told you for decades. At some point, this imagery was extended to the rest of the EU, being the obstacle in the UK's way. I never understood why so many of you bought it. China, in her point of view and argumentation, is the appropriate example. This will help to justify the withdrawal of human and workers rights. China is only so competitive and successful, because they don't have these red tapes. If I was in your place, I would sleep with one eye open. Honestly, right now this makes me feel absolutely hopeless. Made redundant on May, been job hunting, had 4 interviews all rejections. Applied for job positions (realistic with my skills and experience related) and no feedback. Right now I feel absolutely hopeless. I swallowed my pride and decided to move back into my parents, at the age of 30 and a single man, yeah I swallowed up my pride. I don’t care what people think of me, as long as I am surviving, and doing what I can to keep by and keep going. Some have even mentioned, to try to attain a new skill or new qualifications while unemployed, that’s just not worth it, especially when looking for jobs in an already hyper-competitive job market, with so many limited jobs all of us are going for. I also feel for the citizens whom are long-term unemployed who are also trying. Sorry but I feel absolutely hopeless. All of us lucky enough to be in whatever employment, I know we all work hard. Productivity as about more than someone “grafting”. It’s about training, investment in tools, plant, equipment, and infrastructure and a supportive supply chain. The logical conclusion is that Liz’s Brexit with it’s 24 mile tailback’s at Dover and massive inefficiencies that have been driven into trading with our biggest partners has somehow made people in the UK lazier. Bring on Truss as Prime Minister.... I say this because evidently, through what we have seen and heard from her, on how she lays her stall out as a working minister and now as a candidate as PM. When she does get in to Downing Street, she will make such an absolute clown show of a leader or the Tories, that in 6 months time everyone will think back to Blithering Johnson as a better solution. ( He obviously wasn't). We then need all the brexiteer's to face up and admit that they were lied to in voting for such a shambles, and we can then build a population that stands together in the next election to get rid of this corrupt and self serving government. The solution to better productivity and efficiency in the UK is not lining the pockets of shareholders and CEO's of business. The solution is to invest in the business, and invest in your workforce. There is too many greedy people in this country who want more and more and more. This has been fed to us from the Tory manifest pledges time and time again, to make you believe " I am alright Jack, Eff the rest of you". If anyone of the ministers and cabinet members in the Tories right now thought anything of the general public right now,( who's taxed money props up the corrupt pockets of these said upstanding members) they would have already put in place a solution to where this country is going. Compared to countries around the World, we are a shambles, led by corrupt selfish out of touch so called figure heads. May I pease tell you in a nutshell what i as a hungarian working woman in this country find the biggest difference between the working morale in the two nations (uk/ eastern europe)? Where i'm from, you put your hands together and you're on your knees thanking your luck that you have a job, and you are expected to feel this way. Like you are being appreciated by being allowed to work here. You should hush hush, do your duty quietly, dont stir up the water, and then you'll be able to feed your family for a long time. In the same position. What i see in the UK is that workers know that they represent a value without which the company can't run, and they want to be treated nicely for the skillset they bring to the game. For me, adopting the UK mindset was a gamechanger at looking at my own life, career and career development. I see a path ahead leading up and forward, not i to a pool of tepid water. It's not the workers who are in the wrong here. This b#&h has no idea what it feels like when daddy and the rich friends don't pave the road for you, and you have to accomplish it yellow brick by yellow brick.

Thing is …on the one hand …she’s not wrong. Workers do produce less, productivity-wise than other workers. Here’s where she’s wrong. It is a management/political leadership problem that’s the issue, not the workers. Workers have little they can do to improve their productivity. It is down to management decisions and culture to make sure workers are fairly compensated. We don’t have that. We have a greedy upper-corporate culture that believes shareholders are worth more than those that do the work. Tories like Truss can’t work this out as they’re looking through the large to small end of the telescope and not the other way round.

Productivity for a country is roughly measured by how much that country produces divided by the how much it puts in (labour/working population, capital). It's not limited to manufacturing because we produce a LOT in services. The issue is how can we improve this even more. Lots of countries do better, is it a reflection of working culture (like truss says), or is it more nuanced? The UK has been low on this measure for about 20 years now and one of the biggest challenges has been how to improve it.

More to the point, she believes the way to make Britain more "prosperous" is by extracting more and more out of workers who've already been bled dry by a decade of tory austerity, wage stagnation and the steady upward redistribution of wealth from workers to the capital class. One has to ask what she means by "prosperity", because it doesn't seem to have much to do with improving the lot of working class people.

Okay, let's do this. Tie the value of the person to how many pencil sharpeners they can make in an hour, how many rolls of bread they can sell, and how many lines of code they can write. Fine with that. It just means that the 2 groups of people who become absolutely worthless become politicians, especially the Tories who literally want to remove laws and protections, thus having a negative output per hour. The 2nd would be landlords, who take assets someone else has created and put them back on the market unchanged in any way, but at an inflated price without adding any value or making anything themselves. Do we have a deal, Liz?
