@@zorktxandnand3774 Duh. They've spent the entire afternoon speculating who might follow without the slightest analysis of what that would mean for the things that matter
@overlydramaticpanda2 жыл бұрын
@@janetgough6585 That's probably because (1) the news only broke at 1.30 this afternoon with very little warning and the rest of the day has naturally been spent with Tory MPs either testing the waters, disqualifying themselves or else wholeheartedly throwing their names into the ring; even the official "rules" going forward were only announced a few hours ago; (2) the vast majority of us simply won't get a say on who it is unless the Tory party get sufficiently spooked enough to say "sod this, let's just have a general election". Which they won't, because they'll be wiped out. So we're all just going to have to take what we're given regardless of how it effects mortgage payments/food bills/anything you think might matter. This isn't like four months ago where we had two months of learning who all the potential players are and what they apparently stood for and what it might mean - this is all going to be done one way or another in 8 days with nominations not even closing until Monday evening, so you're probably not going to see much of any analysis on the candidates or anything else until the matter is settled due to things moving at a frankly ridiculous pace because the Tories simply do not want to risk their government becoming "unstable" and thus providing an excuse for a general election to be called; (3) none of the even potential candidates have made their mandates public yet so quite literally all anyone can do is speculate without analysis; (4) Liz Truss made it clear that she will functionally remain as PM until a successor is chosen next Friday so it ultimately doesn't really change much of anything over the next 8 days anyway. We're still living under -her- Jeremy Hunt's economic plan and probably will do until the next GE since I'd imagine the last thing the next Tory PM would want to do is risk spooking the markets yet again.

That would be too much hard work. This clowning around is much easier, and they really do believe this is what the British public are interested in.

@@truthsearcher596 Absolutely. What we need to know is whether the havoc Truss has caused will continue now she's gone; nobody is even addressing that and it's what matters

The Daily Star was running a livestream to determine whether a head of lettuce would rot before Liz Truss left. The lettuce was victorious.

Sorry to our friends across the pond 😂 but this is highly entertaining. But hey, at least your conservatives aren’t anti democracy insurrectionists like ours 😭
