Sound Ninja. Side note, but I am a big fan of the way you explain things clearly while not being afraid to go all-out nerd with it.

I hardly hear a change. It would be cool if you did more videos on this. This is a thing I want to get better at hearing.

it's subtle stuff... sometimes I can't even hear the difference.

@@AttawayAudio That's not what you say in the video, though. I 'm listening with my Sennheisers HD600. I don't know if I 'd hear any difference if I didn't see anything changing on my screen.

Same, I can't hear a difference in any of the examples. Probably due to KZbin compression.

What I hear when bypassed on the piano is how the sound is dampened, sometimes dynamically, in some frequency ranges while in others it stays clear. Almost like applying a palm mute to a guitar string, and if it’s dampening dynamically then palm muting after the note’s already been struck. When the plugin’s turned on that sonic "resistance" is lifted. Listen for a tiny bit of eq change, along with some changes in the piano's dynamics over different frequencies, some changes to the transients, the clarity and 3d-ness of the sound. Here the unprocessed stereo version sounds very 3d but in mono it falls apart. A correctly processed version will keep more of that same depth in mono. This stuff comes up with drums a lot too. Once in a while even with a single mic having phase issues with itself! A reflection off a tom tom shell hitting the snare mic might cause a SMALL amount of cancellation in an unfortunate frequency range, for instance. The difference here is audible, mostly unaffected by YT to my ear. It is DEFINITELY subtle. To hear it one has to listen to a few qualities at the same time and eq isn’t really the big one. That can all be tricky. It’s the kind of thing you have to…idk “awaken” the ear to? Then you’ll hear it.

sound ninja, yes it makes sense, discussed in the old and immensely useful "Audio Cyclopedia" by Howard Tremaine, 9db rule as I recall, please read.

Are those Event TR8's I see? I have a pair of them as well. I've had mine since 2004, and they still sound great!

mine just bit the dust a few months ago. I can only guess that the crossover went haywire because I started getting a huge dip at 2k, which isn't exactly great for mixing.

Great video! I'm having phase issues on my guitar bus, where I have double tracked electric guitars either side. Will this plugin help if I chuck in there and play around with it?
@AttawayAudio2 жыл бұрын
do you mean separate mono passes, or two different mics on the same performance? if the latter, yes, it will help. if the former, it's not likely they're THAT time aligned to have every strum have out of phase information, but I could be wrong

I didn't hear a thing change. Either there is something with KZbin compression or something, or its just a bad demonstration of a plug in.
