There were a huge vibration humming from your computer because it was on the table without a shock-mount (i believe would remove it.) Proberly a good idea to fix for future recordings & reviews.

@tJ0N3S You have to record on your camera and computer at the same time, use a clapper board or make a loud noise, you can then use this peak in the audio to align the two tracks when you edit. Mute the one you don't want. Job done.

@AppScreencast I was using Final Cut Express... Premiere offers me queueing so I can continue editing whilst it processes the previous video, much quicker for me. I still use FCE sometimes though.

Hey Kayla, I actually had this same problem. The problem is, there will be a very annoying delay if you set it up with a program that can feed your voice back to you. However, AudioTechnica has just recently come out with the at2020usbPLUS, which is the same thing, but features a headphone jack so you can listen to yourself directly through the microphone itself. I'm returning my at2020usb so I can buy the new one.

+DUALUX3™ I vastly prefer the Rode. The AT2020 is nice but picks up a lot of background noise. I own both BTW. Build of the Rode is nicer as well.

I found your Videocamera Audio much better, The Audio Technica mike had some pretty loud 50 Hz background hum ! Maybe a bad power supply circuit in it ? Or were you too near to the Monitor so it picked up the hum from the monitor ??
@BrightShadow-
@BrightShadow- 9 жыл бұрын
overunitydotcom Are you sure about that? Most of the video was from the video camera, and had horrible background sound, and then nearish the end he finally swapped to the AT2020USB mic, and the background sound disappears, and things are perfectly clear.

It's because of his PC vibrating, when you use it when it's suspended in the air on a shockmount, it's amazing.

@pimpyouriphone3g It is helps, I am testing the Yeti at the moment. The AT2020 just edges it (only just) on audio quality, more rounded sound. Also the hardware feels better made (though that is a very personal opinion). I thought this might help, as my review of the Yeti won't be until end of January.

Hey davomrmac, I recently got this microphone but I find that as soon as I start speaking more than 20cm from the mic itself the levels drop off and my voice quality sounds like I'm miles away. I was wondering if you made any audio adjustments behind the scenes before this video and what software you use to record your audio with? Thanks! :)

I have no idea at all how the Audio Technica AT4050SM Condenser Microphone can better the sound quality of this microphone because the quality is really clear that on video it looked as if someone else was doing mouth syncing with you.

This really is a Amazing mic. I didn't realize it was over 8 years old. I got one recently and it sounds great. I prefer the way I sound using this one over the Blue Yeti (I have a deeprer voice). Only thing it doesn't have that I kinda wanted but it's not a big deal with keyboard shortcuyts, is a mute button. Other than that I LOVE it.

He wasn't using a shock mount I am guessing it is pickup through the table and vibrations spreading to the mic itself, it is why I ALWAYS suggest to anyone using a mic setup to get a hanging mic or put a shockmount on the mic :P

I don't know if I was clear in my previous post, so I'll try again. You cannot do what you're trying to do with the mic in this video. If you attempt to have the computer play your voice back live with any program, it will come back with a second, maybe half second delay. If you want truly live playback, you're going to have to either buy a real studio mic with an interface or get the at2020+. If you could achive that with this mic, they wouldnt have made the new one.

Although the audio quality was superior when you switched at 4:38 I detected a background hum - wondering if this is a screening problem or was the cable near something electrical?. A tip that might help others is not to set the microphone pointing at mouth but at throat, it does eliminate popping. Nice review thanks.

Blue Yeti if price isn't a problem. AT-2020 if you can compromise audio quality for price, but they're both good for the price. I'm saying this after listening to recordings of each, not using the actual product itself so maybe my comment isn't too accurate.
