I'm treble sensitive and I tried this on the ea 500lm which is an iem that i absolutely despised. To my surprise it actually tames the treble down without compromising the rest of the frequencies. I can finally listen to this iem now and I actually enjoy it. I didnt think that was possible. Thanks so much for this.

The rating system is super clunky and over 40 trials it's hard to keep track of what I rated what. It would be probably better if you could find a way to do A - B testing over just pure ratings.

I got to say this is quite nice. I did this with the final e3000 and after it sounded so much better and less bloated. The mids were a little more recessed on the graph than I would like but overall very nice. This would be a lot better if it was tracks I was familiar with because finding what tune you like on a track you’ve never heard is quite difficult.

Tried your stuff, all the trials sound the same I don't know how to rate any of them. And in the end I got a result that sounds different sure, I just don't know if it sounded any better. From my experience all the bad sounding headphones are not simply bad because of EQ, and the ones that are good, are not simply good because of EQ. You can EQ a good headphone to sound different. But you can't really EQ a bad headphone to sound good. Also tuning your device according to preference is like calibrating your display not with a sensor but just by eye, and you're just changing the numbers until your 3 photos look "the best" that's just stupid on so many levels. That's not how any of this works, you should calibrate your device such that it reproduces the same signals as the capture device, not to your preference. If the content is not to your preference you should go change the content or make a modification during playback only, not a universal modification.

Just had an idea: haven't checked to see if it's already been tried but why doesn't somebody just put x headphones on test rig and EQ it until they get as close to a given target as they can then sell that EQ profile for x headphones for x target that user can simply pay to dl and import/apply to same EQ software and wallah! Profit? Perhaps a proprietary EQ software that's free to dl and requires product key for each profile~

I see what you did here! As soon as you have enough samples, you can extrapolate an average listener profile for each headphone. And if that already would not be enough, from those datasets, you can compare with measurements of all these headphones and find very, very nice target curves for headphones that might rival Harman and such. Very good idea, this service you came up with. I would include a short survey to find trained listeners; that would make this even more powerful! Very cool indeed. But be careful-you should have more variety in song selection because otherwise, your target cannot be accurate. All music is mastered by humans and therefore always with a different target as well. Very stoked about where you are going with this! I think the name is only okay, though; it sounds too technical. If you want this to be a popular app or something, you should find something more casual. Good luck!! Also, as a mix engeneer, I would love a "pro" version with AB testing in the end to finetune the target, and a even more in depth testing in generall. I dont care if ir takes an hour, if it makes my working enviroment more linear im all in!!! : )

@ So much, it’s a lot to unpack. First of all, the selection of audio devices. Understandably you can’t have all audio devices listed. That said you leave testers who don’t have any of the listed devices to guess as to what is closest. It would have been better to just have broad categories such as “open back hp’s”, “in ear hp’s” etc. Next you have different segments of the song randomly played in between each of the 40 ratings. A/B tests are unreliable at best. When you’re essentially making it an A/B/C/D test the results will be based on what part of the song has the best musical composition rather than what sound profile is best. Another big issue is the UI lent itself to errors. Several times I’d press next and nothing would happen. So I’d press next again and suddenly rate two samples, one of which I had inadvertently skipped. When I was almost done the page timed out and refreshed itself before I had completed the test. In all honesty not a terrible concept, but the implementation needs some fine tuning.

Are you using or planning to use the results for a study on average listener preference? Will it be free in the future? My first results were pretty close to my preferred Target in the midrange and treble, but the Bass range results were meh after quickly going trough the tests. ~400-6kHz pretty much matching the Harman2018OE and SoundGuys Target, Treble right between both Targets. Bass is lower then i usually prefer and the 150Hz range got boosted and sounds a tad bit muddy now. (2dB below Harman, but I usually enjoy 0dB to +5dB depending on at home vs on my way) The resulting EQ is meh for me. I suspect that the EQ sounds not super good in the Treble cause of the measurement used to create the EQ. I used DMS measurement (4128-C) of the Fiio FT1 for my EQ and the results are way better in the treble for me.

Second time I used beta AI 15 trials with -5 to +5 rating and the song "ストロボナイツ" from livetune. Starting at 4:30 with the low pass square wave made it easier to notice a difference between the trials. On 2nd I got +2 at 150 Hz and -1.6 dB at 3k compared to user average. I typically EQ my headphones with more midbass and less eargain/treble so I wasn't surprised. With the two 13 band EQs (pregain matched at 500 Hz) I ended up prefering the result from the first try, second try was too sibilant. I feel like 15 trials wasn't enough and adjustment in the presence region around 6 to 8k would be good.

When is your next "I Got Banned From ........" video? It's funny watching you cry about places you keep getting banned from. When's the next one? I loved the Can Jam one. That was funny. You're a great comedian 🤣

What?! It's an actual website. I thought this was making fun of the concept😅 What a horrible business idea. People don't know good sound so we'll have complete listening novices rate their way over an hour to find perfection🤣 99,3% of the target audience (pun intended) won't bother doing this. Of the 0,7% at least half will have unit variation that makes this not work overall and the rest have better ways of approaching this. To make it into an actual product you get a maximum of 5min of low effort participation and you can't rely much on measurements of other units.

So like Sonarworks
@sharuraudio
@sharuraudio Ай бұрын
Our software is far superior and more advanced than Sonarworks's. For example, the bass and treble shelf frequency locations are fixed in Sonarworks's software to what Harman arbitrarily chose in "Listener Preferences for In-Room Loudspeaker and Headphone Target Responses" because Sonarworks themselves do not understand the various psychoacoustic factors at play nearly as well as us. This is clearly demonstrated in their SoundID Reference software for loudspeakers where the entire range is equalized using steady-state measurements.
