Thanks a lot, not just for this but for all your videos, you do a great job of getting us to understand darktable. Happy Christmas and a happy new year. Side question: Ever tried a video about infrared photography and darktable? It's I think so much easier than Lightroom and Photoshop, because you don't need an extra color profile and you can switch color channels directly (With Adobe you can't do that in lightroom, you have to do it in Photoshop)
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄 No, never done infrared photography. Would not know the first thing about it! 😃

Hi Bruce, thank you for doing the video on darktable v3, as usual you’ve done a great job and I’m looking forward to the other module explanations. Wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
For a start, I made the video using rc2, which I knew would be very close to the final release. But yeah, at this stage, it will be quicker to install from the source code than to wait for the various repositories to update it.

Hi Bruce. I'm not clear on the new Denoise Profiled module. The module still has modes called "Wavelets" and "Non-Local Means". Based on my comparisons, they have very different effects - requiring two instances to fully reduce noise. What do they mean, then, that only one module need be used? Also, the "auto" modes don't seem to do much, beyond what the non-auto modes do. What's your take?
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
Haven't had a chance to look at the revised version of the module, but I will be doing a video on it in due course. My understanding is that we no longer need to do the 2 passes trick from days of yore. It now should work much better with a single instance. But like I said, I've yet to put it through its paces.
@Ronbo7655 жыл бұрын
Bruce Williams Photography I couldn’t, for the life of me, figure out how only 1 instance of Denise (Prof) would be sufficient. Possibly with the wavelets mode as it has a big effect. I wish they would put out the manual, soon.

Bruce at 13:22 you are saying that, because of REC2020, we should disable sharpen module. What is alternative to that module, because there is a difference with that module set to 2? Thank you

Still cannot use the export to google nor any other web service, error for google saying not approved yet, facebook error not secure.. Anyone know ho to get these services working as it is the one thing I have not yet been able to use on any DT version! I am using 3.1.0~git184.ca72e40ce
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, same here, Louise. I've never had any of them work either. I always export to a local folder, and upload manually. My guess is that someone started work on it a long time ago, and has not maintained the feature.
@AkiraFurball5 жыл бұрын
@@audio2u Its really quite annoying, the lack of functionality of the exporters is the only thing that lets it down compared to lightroom extortionware :(
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
While I understand your frustration, I'm guessing that it's not a feature many people are using. Otherwise, it would have been fixed by now. It would be nice if it worked though!
@wido1231235 жыл бұрын
Wow, how many cool features! first thing first, the link in hte description has changd from the branch into master (and is no longer working). Regarding 3d lut, you know that Darktable has been able to do LUT transformation for a while, but this is to export/import luts in some 'standard' format (cube is the lightroom format). The denoise looks soooo promesing! and the "basic adjustment" will be great for new users to start digging into DT, I think. And I'm sure I'm gonna love the tone mapping, but I wonder if it's going to be possible to adjst how many zones you can have. Thanks for the review, Bruce!
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. I'll get the link updated when I can, but it won't be today. Got a house full of family! Cheers.

are people uninstalling old version before installing 3.0? is that what they recommend?
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
I did uninstall 2.6, but only because I am going to use the dev version going forward. Although, I will probably install the official release of 3.0 when the Linux Mint repository gets updated.
@drone360productions75 жыл бұрын
You can just install 3.0 if you want. It will then ask you at the start of install something like - "you already have darktable installed. Would you like to uninstall the previous version?" if you click yes, it will install the old version and then install the new version.

@Bruce Williams Photography : Glad to see a video based on article I cowrited with some people. Simple and good reading of my article with the benefit of videos manipulations. The link you posted is not more avalaible (it was the Git branch to be published on darktable.org website). The article is now published here: www.darktable.org/2019/12/darktable-30/ The home page have also been updated (icon and new capture screen based on 3.0 of course). Good work. And I quite agree with you for what you said about change module order. That's why this big statement is on the article. It's a big and good feature only for really advanced users of darktable. Changing order of course really need to know what we do with that. Nilvus

I upgraded before I really got into it, having just come back to photography. First, being a Mac user we do not have an Alt button. Whats the equivalent? Second, a friend showed me Photolemur and then Luminar which use AI to get rid of all these time consuming steps. I was blown away. Can you do that in Darktable? He went from a raw file to one that he honestly said he could not improve in 30 seconds. Surely thats the way to go.
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
The Mac equivalent of alt is the option button.
@europlatus4 жыл бұрын
If you want AI to do everything for you, then you should use software that does that. Darktable won't be for you. It provides much greater control over the finished product.
