darktable ep 150 - New features in darktable 5.0 (pt 1 of 2)

I've been deep diving into darktable for the past few weeks, and have your videos to thank for helping me along (as well as several other people on KZbin). Darktable 5.0 seems like a huge improvement to performance, and is the reason I gave it a second chance after considering dropping money on something other than Lightroom.

I'm glad you have found my videos to be helpful! True, darktable can be quite deep. But it is truly worth the time and effort to master.

Great summary! 5:45 you can get an empty lighttable just by filtering your view with something that doesn't apply to any image. Then it'll show the new-user hints.

This is good, looking forward to part 2. I have one question, I am not sure if it's just me who has this issue. Whenever I go in light table or darkroom & try to adjust the window size, the window size gets huge & goes out of frame, I have to resize it by horizontally scrolling it back. But it does not come to its full window properly. Currently I am on Darktable 5.0 on Ubuntu 24.04 , but this issue i am facing from datktable 3.0 . in 3.0 onwards it was not that prominent , but in 5.0 its happening a lot. Any help is highly approciated.

I too love the new uprated paths (bezier style) tool. Harks back to paths in Adobe ps . Also being able to rearrange the module order (without needing shift before click & drag) I find useful especially when editing for a monochrome effect. BTW, is this likely to be yet another 'trilogy' ? 😂

I hope Darktable isn't feature complete because there is other software on Windows & Mac that Darktable still doesn't come close too.
