I recently got the he560 v4 off Adorama for a hugely reduced price. I honestly can't pick a favorite between that and my he400se. The 400se is a tiny bit more exciting and like you said has that slight "aggressive" tuning which works in it's favor, it's got a great amount of detail and those highs reach up there but don't get too much, it's very clear. With the 560 v4 it has a really great bass extension and has reaaaally great detail. It's got a more relaxed signature compared to the sundara but everything still sounds fantastic. I can't explain it too well. Because of these two headphones I'm a big fan of Hifiman. And the 400se is honestly such a steal. They're really setting a new standard with affordable amazing headphones.

Thanks for sharing your findings. I've been curious about the HE560 v4 myself as I know the OG 560 and I think Hifiman said the Sundara sort of slots into the place of the 560. So it was interesting that the v4 has a more relaxed sig than the Sundara because the latter is already more relaxed than the OG 560.

is 170 mW @ 32 ohm max enough for the he400se? thanks for the response

400i 2020 requires about 30% less power to drive, it's more energy efficient than 400se. Former can be driven on smartphone with just a DAC dongle.
