I have the clear og bought new for 790. Can confirm they are great, well balanced, don't feel the need for eq. Comes with balanced xlr cables.

Would you say the HE6 og version is comparable or better than the HE1000 stealth or other variants? I'm having a difficult time finding an endgame hifiman under 2k currently. There's too many varying and contradicting opinions especially especially concerning the HE1000 stealth/etc series. I am researching whether to keep the HE1000 stealth or return it for the HE6se v2/other variants. At this point, I might just get the Arya V3 and call it a day. Thanks
@HeadphonePH
@HeadphonePH 28 күн бұрын
They are two different headphones. The HE6 line is more about power, slam and dynamism. The HE1000 is about spaciouness, microdetail, a friendlier tuning perhaps? The OG HE6 is quite expensive if you find them on a used market not to mention their mileage and being harder to drive. Personally, I find the HE1000 Stealth the best Hifiman headphone under 2k but it seems like you're not too happy since you're considering parting ways with it? I like the HE1000 a bit better than Arya also. There's a reason the HE6se V2 is significantly less expensive so unless you're specifically looking for its strengths and saving money on the side, I wouldn't really replace the HE1000 with it. Just my 2 cents btw

@@HeadphonePH My first impressions wasn't bad, but I thought it sounded a bit thin and bright. Powerful bass though. Without EQ I'm not a big fan, but with EQ, I have been relieved and probably will keep them. I'm not concerned with saving much money at this level, I'm mainly focused on attaining an endgame headphone that is well balanced. I already do have high value headphones that perform well so I'm covered there. I'm now entering the finale, I don't want to shop for anymore headphones after this. I do want to keep it under 2000, preferably under 1500. I believe I'm close. I need something better than the Focal Clear og though, which I have.

I mean this in the nicest way possible. But the amplifier Luxman P-1u you used for testing. According to google only outputs 500mw at 32 0hms. I say this because The he6se v2 requires at least a 2w amplifier at 50hms according to hifiman. I say this because as someone who usually doesn't care all that much about amplifiers specifically notice how the 6sev2 scales up with power especially in how natural it sounds. For example I originally had a thx 888 amplifier and Went to a schiit magnius, then Topping a70 pro. On the topping while they may be similar volumes for vocals to the thx 888 the bass impact will have much more dynamics and not sound anemic at all compared to the thx, or schiit. (to a lesser extent) Also In my experience the soundstage opens up a lot and the treble gets less glary or siblant.

No nonsense, no fluff. Sharp, to the point, yet detailed and very well articulate. Incredible review my man. Now that these are $1399, the price is a lot more palatable, yet still very high! I agree - these could definitely pass for endgame if the hifiman sound is your cup of tea. I own these and the clear for their opposite characteristics. If I may ask, what type of sound signature do you prefer? And what’s your favourite headphone?

Very good and articulate review. I like how you described the difference between Focal Clear/Utopia and HE1000 Stealth in terms of smaller stage but more direct punch vs bigger stage but a softer presentation. I'd add to this that if one wants the best of both worlds, it's really worth spending a bit more and getting the HE1000se which sounds much more natural and less "artificial" (especially stage-wise) than the HE1000 Stealth.

@@HeadphonePH Yeah, I think different people perceive these things differently - to me the HEKse has an elevated treble and air region as a whole which is not that difficult to get used to (but can sound a bit splashy and "off" at times) whereas the Stealth has more like peaks at particular frequencies which are only sometimes annoying. The overall tuning of the Stealth is lovely, though. The HEKse is more "direct" but the Stealth's spatial presentation can be really addictive. Have you heard the Susvara?

Why are no companies making headphones that sound like this anymore? Warm, sweet, with just enough air and richness in the treble. It makes everything sound wonderful. When my original Grado RS1s die (and it’s when, not if, with these things - they’re already older than me), these LCD 2.2s will be completely unobtainium, and I don’t know what I’ll do then… Finance a ZMF Atrium?

Your review is as valuble as me reviewing a power drill for baking bread… the ndh-30 is very flat, great transient response, accurate ”soundstage”, accurate representation of the audio = translates mixes very well to other playback devices. It is build for a purpose and if it even closely resembled any of your comparison cans i would steer away at once since they are really colored, with a big smileyface eq curve, and an exhaggerated soundstage. It competes very well with a lot of headphones twice its price and half its build quality. This is a tank that is ready for work!

You're one of the few reviews that has criticism of the treble. I would 100% agree with you. Too dark and lacks detail. Your comment of a cloth over the treble is perfect. How I felt as well. Sadly, I thought the other ares of the 30's were great. Curious, do you think I'd be happy with the LCD-X?
@HeadphonePH
@HeadphonePH 8 ай бұрын
I assume you refer to the 2021 LCD-X cause the earlier versions sound a bit muted unless you'd EQ. The LCD-X is a much better headphone for music listening though it has subdued 2-5khz. Not too bad sound-wise though cause that's an area that usually has harshness. But overall, I wouldnt call it a dark sounding headphone. Honestly I dont know if you'd be happy with it but I'd say it has plenty more treble frequencies than the NDH-30.

This is a very, seemingly, biased opinion you have here. Your review seems to be based on everyday listening (contoured) headphones instead of mix/mastering (flat) headphones. Using these type of headphones will take time to adjust to the flat frequency response and the clarity these headphones will bring. A well-trained ear will find these headphones to be exactly what is needed in the studio. If you immediately have a response that says they don't sound as bright, dull, boomy, mid high/low as (insert other brand) then you are completely missing out on what these are actually achieving and you would do your mixes a favor by having a better trained ear. You're expecting others to take your word for how you perceive frequency when your ears listen to it. If you want to comment on build quality, fine. But, when it comes to what they sound like, measurement is the only thing you can do to validate whether or not they're in fact as flat as they say they are.

Great video. Hifiman's entire series of headphones are completing the conversion of the stealth version. I think this is related to copyright protection. I believe that hifiman has applied for a patent for the stealth magnet, which can combat plagiarism. The difference between the stealth version and the non-stealth version of the earphones is passive, not the result of active tuning. In fact, I heard that hifiman once engaged in a small headphone brand to copy their headphones, and won the lawsuit.
