Good list pointing out the various characteristics of each good speaker. It should help people match the speaker to the room better when you know how you are going to place it. A typical family room in older 2 stories in our area is behind the garage and is 11' to 13' on the narrow wall and 20' to 22' on the long wall. Especially in what I will call the " bowling alley" room at 11'x22' ( my nephew has one of those), if the speakers are on the narrow wall, the Klipsch 9's are likely a good choice; if I put them on the long wall, I would opt for the BMR where the real wide dispersion is a must to cover a close seating area. Good stuff!

The biggest myth in audio is that a flat on axis response is best. The market research shows that A.) Most hifi speakers are far from flat B.) Most audiophiles do not buy flat speakers. So this disproves the claim that flat speakers are the best. Not according to market research!

As always, an awesome video. What I would really like to see is a recommendation for a 7.1.4 system on a budget. Like, for example 3 Emotiva T2+ for LCR, 4 Emotiva B2+ for surrounds and back surrounds and 4 B1+ for height Atmos speakers. Such system would cost less than $3000. Unfortunately, Emotiva discontinued the T2s and B1s already. Thus, it would have been great if there was a video on this by You, or on a Daily HiFi podcast.

Of all the speakers in this list, I would take the Lintons. They seem to have the least amount of faults. I've always been a fan of British loudspeakers. I've never been a fan of speakers that have a "in your face" type of midrange and a very aggressive treble region, they sound exciting at first but quickly become fatiguing.

I don’t disagree. However, since it has been discontinued, and since I believe that the new one is truly a good deal, better, I think it makes sense to leave that one off. This is why I pay more attention to technical review channels over subjective ones. Especially when it comes to recommendations and viewing the data to understand where a speakers strengths and weaknesses are. I cannot for the life of me understand why a highly praised small speaker that costs $7000 with no low end under 100hz would have a more "refined" sound than one that costs less than half that on certain subjective review channels.

Nice eclectic collection of various speakers and speaker types, each with a reason to exist and a purpose. I'm most curious about the one with the BMR driver. I have some Cambridge Minx MIn22 right here on the desk that sound really fantastic in nearfield but also really solid at longer ranges. Also BMR designs. I'd be really curious how they measure... so if you can get your hands on a pair of these, maybe Cambridge wouldn't mind loaning out a pair (they're $150 each, by the way) and Klippel them up that would be fun to see. They're just 10 cm tall, and don't do anything under 120 hz so sub is mandatory but they sure radiate widely. Primary reason I got these is simply space - on a computer desk, anything much taller than 10 cm starts getting grotesque. Still, very happy with them.

I didn’t want to use all 7 speakers in the picture. And if I put a picture of other speakers then people might have expected to see them in the video. So I grabbed something I thought would be obvious as not in my list. 😀

Doesn’t mean I don’t like it. I was just trying to be reasonable with my choices, as I mentioned in the videos opening. If I make a list and they’re all $1300 speakers then I might as well title that video top $1300 speakers. I’ll be making a video soon about the different ELAC speakers.

Erin, do you have a favorite for low volume listening? (Especially if using subwoofer )what would be the best bang for the buck at low volumes? Is it all about sensitivity rating?
@ErinsAudioCorner

I know I've talked about it in some reviews but I'm honestly drawing a blank on the topic at the moment. Usually it's speakers with dynamic range (which isn't necessarily analogous to high sensitivity).

I personally would also try to listen to a speaker if at all possible, in the showroom at least, but at home preferably. I think measurements are also important especially to those who understand them well, and don’t have a chance to hear them in person. If you think people are wasting their money by judging speakers this way, could you mention some helpful, alternative suggestions?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. In addition to listing some great value speakers, this vid highlights your approach to judging speakers, which I highly respect. Even though my stereo is at a level I'm happy with, the near universal praise for the Lintons, especially yours, has got me interested. I would like to see your general take on amplifiers. Always look forward to your content, thanks!

I know you don't like Klipsch passive speakers and I love them but that's what's so great about our hobby(passion). We should be able to disagree and not fight. Have you ever heard NHT speakers? I like them a lot, I have two pairs, and they are as far from Klipsch as you can get.

I’m limited by my room right now. The Klippel z-axis extension I need to measure taller speakers in my room is about 5k euros. This video will probably generate no more than $100 over its entire life so that doesn’t help matters. Not to mention my bad back now.

I'm pretty happy these days listening to Monitor Audio Silver 100 7Gs -- in the nearfield. About US$1000-1200. First impressions were that the highs had a metallic edge, but trading up to a better amp and cables solved the problem and showed that they "scale up" very well. (Cardas Clear Reflection interconnects; Furutech DPS-4.1 power cables; Neotech OCC speaker cables). They're good all-rounders.

Just picked up The Nines for $749 brand new straight from Klipsch. That's a 4-channel amp, DAC, DSP, USB, BT, Phono preamp, line in, 3.5 in, sub out, two 8" woofer, 2 titanium wave guide tweeters, and a remote for $749...no guesswork, they just sound good.

I currently have the R28PF’s, and i absolutely love them. I’m in a position that I need something smaller and the nines are something that I feel I could live with happily if I can’t have my towers. I’ve never heard the nines but I don’t need to, I’m confident that they’re going to do the job. I have a Klipsch 10” sub connected to my towers and I absolutely love the setup. Someday I’d love to have the really crazy shit in the Heritage loudspeaker series, but I’m already so thankful for what I do have that it’s all good. Fingers crossed I find a way to get a deal like you did or some kind of trade fantasy I’ve dreamed up that I won’t actually find lol
