Stiffer suspension will yield higher power handling at the expense of low end response. However, not that low end is a problem for these 18” subs. They will still dig deep. The cone is so big, there’s enough mass (weight) to help overcome the slightly stiffer suspension. Also, it’s a Kevlar fiber cone and not carbon fiber. It’s a Kevlar non pressed paper composite. The dust cap is red glass fiber. As far as the different vc, it’s possible they did a slightly higher wind height due to the extra slug. One note, the 4 has a higher BL than the 5. The fifth smaller diameter slug does very little to add Gauss to the gap. If I was choosing between the two, I would go with the IV. That fifth slug doesn’t appear to be doing much, it’s the stiffer suspension that’s most likely making the biggest difference. Cheers!!!

The 5 is likely to have a higher fs until breaking in .. my dd9518 was so stiff when i got it took well over a month to break in.. the soft parts .( Spider and surrounding) Will loosen and the natural fs will drop... Also keep in mind fs isnt the ultimate determining factor of low hz... THE BOX IS

It looks to me like the motor on the 4 is wider . I get the 5 stack is taller but the diameter looks bigger on the 4

I run more then double rated power to each of my subs and play super lows 8hz to 30hz box is tuned at 24hz and have no issues don’t clip and have enough electrical and you can run whatever you want I can full tilt mine and walk away but the super lows does keep the subs cooler if guys are gonna play that to cool down a sub they need to turn it way down because if their box can’t play that low they can damage the woofer also by bottoming out possible ripped spiders from over excursion etc but these are nice subs but that fs is crazy high on the 5 stack but I’ve had a bd12 it got down

Because less but wider slugs give way more motor strength, stacking slugs does absolutely nothing motor strength wise. The only thing stacking slugs does is allow for a longer coil

Bingo! The IV has a much higher BL than the V. Any more than 4 slugs is getting into the category of making it “look” more powerful. People eat that stuff up and then mount them inverted to show off their smaller 5 slugs. Adding a fifth smaller diameter slug will do nothing for adding Gauss to the gap. I’d be curious if the V has a higher wind height on the voice coil. They state in reference to the VC “engineered with improved voice coil ventilation”. Umm, yeah. Both the IV and V have your industry standard pole vent and also six gap vents. This is good to see, but not sure how the VC improves ventilation. If I was choosing between the two, I’d go with the IV.

They are listing the absolute specs of the sub. It’s easier to list the entire frequency response vs its frequency response to everyone’s different crossover settings. Cheers!!!
