the hardware just makes his voice have more bite without being tizzy and harsh in the top like the plugin did - vocal sounds like it makes my head vibrate more than the plugin - like his voice is more REAL sounding than a recording...Thanks for these videos!!

The Audioscape outshined the UAD. Hardware just feels like you can reach out and grab the sound. It's a meaty, 3D thing. I've recently gone back to hitting as much analog hardware as I can, into summing, onto tape machine to make it smack. There's just no getting around it. In the box is more convenient. Hardware still sounds better.

How do these compare to the warm audio units you have?

what's the slowest attack you reckon you can get out of it, using ratio combinations?

To me, there is a sonic benefit to running tracks through hardware but a huge worklflow cost. Treating one track at a time, printing, then moving on to the next, then having to go back to it later as the mix is more refined is just much slower, unwieldy, and much less flexible than working with plugins. But, it sure sounds better. I think the only solution is for plugins to continue to get better, to the point that they are indistinguishable from hardware. We are not there yet but they are getting better all the time.

Sadly that will never happen, the way digital waveforms compare to analog is like black and white

I do agree though, the workflow is slower, but I think it’s more enjoyable to twist real knobs, feels more legitimate and satisfying. $$$ and time are the trade-off

the alternative is having enough hardware compressors and EQs to do what you need via hardware inserts lol.

I'm kind of new to mixing, but I probably wouldn't give each track the analogue treatment. I would try and focus on busses. Get a decent plugin mix, ship drums to a bus and apply outboard, guitar tracks to a bus and apply....

How about just get enough hardware to do it all in one pass? Like the good ole’ days...I own tons of plugs and have really tried to love them, but with only a couple exceptions I have moved almost entirely back to hardware. I have been adding more hardware compressors to my arsenal and I am now at the point where I can mix a full song and have enough comps to go around for it to be done all at once. No printing tracks one at a time. That just becomes unworkable is practice. It just takes too long and kills the flow and connection to the song (for me...). What a difference to both quality of sound and workflow. Not looking back. Now I would just like to have more options to choose between for each track, so even more hardware is going to be on the way. I guess a big difference is that I have always used a good sized analog console with the hardware on inserts and auxes, so that in itself makes a huge difference for flow. No latency problems ever, routing to anything instantly ect.. Recording and mixing can be convenient to do in the box, but since when is this art about convenience? Ironically, After all the hardware is in place and ready to go, I find it is even more convenient to use the hardware. Like he was saying in the video and I find it true too, you find the right sound so much faster and it sounds 3D right away, no fussin’. Nothing quite sounds like an hardware 1176 hitting. Obviously plugs help when you got no cash for hardware, I get it, but otherwise....you get it too.
