Great vid my friend, I just picked this up at Sweetwater for $39 today on sale and it’s amazing. I watched your tutorial here and off I went to make a great master! Thanks so much! Had a song that was giving me fits with both sonnible’s smart limiter and also flatline adding artifacts and changing the mix too much. Just couldn’t get what I wanted. This inflator kept my original mix intact EQ wise that I worked hard for in mixing and added the volume I needed with no artifacts or harsh limiting! Highly recommend this plugin

If you turn the "curve" fader up it will brighten up the sound and if you turn it down it will "dull" the sound. It is very subtle. I usually leave it on the default. 👍

Hey Dan, thanks so much for all you do for the recording community. Since you’ve come of the scene your tutorials have been point on . Everything is clear and explained at a level that people like me can comprehend. I myself own this plugin and so far you’ve slowly broke it down step by step. I like it on lead vocals also. Master bus is where I always use it. Quick question should a limiter be use after this plugin or can you just use this as your final plugin? I did hear it’s good to put another limiter after the Oxford Inflator but. Dan what’s your take? By the way I’ve been checking your videos out now I must say I now a subscriber.

I remember seeing Sonnox Plugins many MANY moons ago but just assumed their Tools were outdated until I saw a RECENT video from a Mastering Engineer using this very Gem in his Masterchain amongst new skool Plugins the realised it was something I actually needed 😆 great vid btw

Sonnox’s marketing team really did a ‘perfect’ job on this one. They managed for more than a decade to hype Inflafor as this magic/‘secret’ algorithm that ‘no other effect in the known universe’ can replicate.. except that what is does it take the input signal, multiplies it by sine shape and outputs it. That’s it. It’s a waveshaper. Plenty of free ones out there, melda’s free one has autogain, oversampling, and is way more versatile. Nulls perfectly with Inflator.. sigh

When you increase the input, is that simply to raise the loudness as a limiter would or does it change the character of the plugin's effect?

Most plugins are meant to receive a certain input level to give you the best results. For this plugin, you want to get it as close to 0dB as possible. If you give it less or more level it will react differently. Not necessarily negative or positive, just different. Hope that helps. 🤘🤘🤘

Thanks for this really clear tutorial - mostly - but maybe you can help clear something up? Is this tutorial in a mastering context (hence driving the output to -1db) - because doing this for a mix (that you’re getting ready for mastering) would mean that there’s no headroom for the mastering process? If I was doing this for a mix, I’d be targeting master output levels at -12db to -6db?

I was just using some room verb for the overall mix. I think the reverb you are referring to is built into the sound patch.

Mwaveshaper is EXACTLY like it… and free: ) The way I know is bc I used them on 2 diff channels of the exact same audio and they canceled out when I inverted the phase!!

My current masterering chain contains a tape emulation plugin. Do you think it makes sense to include inflator in the chain? And if so, put it before or after the tape plugin?

The headline says 'loud masters' and the first thing you say is that you regularly use it for mastering; then you proceed to demo the plugin on....a single snare drum, in a mix. Why not give a demo of how you actually use it, and how the headline describes the video?
