Saw them at Shaky Knees a few years ago. Unbelievable live show, enchanting vocals, really full and multi-layered sound. I also love how they are a young, technical group without being ostentatious. Truly rare. Their performance represents so many hours of practice and dedication. If they come within a few hours of your city, I strongly recommend seeing them.

You've got it mixed up. A lot of people do actually... your voice is gorgeous, you just need it properly recorded and mixed the way she has. Trust me, when I hear a voice I know, you have a solid voice. Keep at it. Save up for a legitimate recording session, legitimate mixing job, and mastering job. You will only get out of it as much as you put in. But forget this American Idol nonsense, it's designed to make people who are on-point like you feel inferior. I can already hear your recordings done properly in my head and I know you're already there.

Bass, two guitars, piano, banjo, drums, clarinet, omnichord, and vocals? Not to mention the clapping and whistling...there's way too much going on in this song. Everything seems jumbled, like at 3:38. It is just a giant wall of chord and I can't actually hear anything. Same with 4:47. I hear a little piano, and vocals of course, and...noise.

It might be busy and complex and it was hard to tell where some of the voices were coming from (guitar vs omnichord), but they pull it off damn well. Their transition into the next song was really good too.

Some bands do that on purpose, that whole noise explosion/pop, I like it. It helps to bring energy to the song imo. I know Modest Mouse does it a good bit and I think DCFC has done it in a few songs as well.
