This van failed its MOT 22 Jan 2020 for steering then on the same day the new MOT put the steering as advisory so that would have been a DODGY MOT the current MOT 30 APRIL 2020 pass expiry date 30 APRIL 2022 the driver is not exempt from the law section 244 you shouldn't park on the pavement also section 72 of the Highways act of 1835 it is an offence to drive on the pavement

Advise is shouldn't park on the pavement but it's not law outside London. He wasn't impeding pedestrians from traveling on the pavement as its quite wide. He was however parked on a single yellow line but we were not shown any sign about the restrictions of that yellow line but I suspect its probably no parking from 8am to 6pm.

If this vehicle has no Mot it is not insured as far as I know as having insurance keeping up maintenance and certificate is one of the main things that is required. The driver should get 6 points if that is the case as the driver of the vehicle is responsible for at point of driving.

Having no MOT has no effect on the validity of third party insurance liability. An insurer may decline a claim for damage to the insured vehicle if it's unroadworthy.

I'm from New Zealand, you will never see vans like that from any company, with that rust you cant get a WOF (Warrant of fitness) and no WOF means you cant get a REGO (Road use license). Using a vehicle without either will get fines issued to the company and/or driver depending on who is issuing them. Traffic management will ticket them for being on yellow lines just like that. If someone walked by and got scraped by the rust, and goes to the doctor with it, it's an ACC (Accident compensation corporation) injury, and ACC raises the company levies (a mile).

May I suggest you avoid such conflict orientated language and try and accept common facts? Due to the security threats posed during cash collections and deliveries, vehicles are fitted with a range of security technology, some of which require a power supply. In the past, this meant the engine had to remain on when the vehicle was stationary in a public location, however many vehicles have now been fitted with solar panels which provide continuous power when idling and reduce the need to keep the engine running. Some vehicles are yet to be fitted.

In a previous occupation I attended the aftermath of stabbings, fights, assaults', road traffic collisions, bodies on railway tracks, or rather pieces of bodies on railway tracks. Auditors do a very worthwhile service to all those people in this country who do not wish to see their rights reduced further, regarding the freedom to photograph or film unhindered in public. To be fair the van could be fitted with a card lock. You need to swipe a card across it to be able to start it, the ignition won't work without. They're just like what you would find on security doors. The doors appear to be permanently locked, judging by the massive metal plate over the door handles. I'm guessing the only access to the vehicle is by the rear doors, which only the driver has access to with the key he uses to get in, so in all honesty I can't really fault the guy for leaving the keys in the ignition. But the state of that van is an absolute joke. If that were you or me driving around in that the police would have a field day!

Those vans are fitted with a secondary locking system which is more resilient than the OEM system so keys in the ignition makes absolutely no difference. Nobody will be able to open the van anyway. Even if they would they would not be able to drive off due to the lack of fingerprint and secondary login in the back airlock.... Report all you want. The police won't do anything.

I personally think you are a nightmare, what business is it of yours to record a man doing his work, regardless of leaving the keys in the ignition or not, it’s an armoured vehicle with slam locks and dead locks meaning no one can force their way into it without standing there with the correct equipment to get into it, windows can’t be smashed, doors can’t be pried and so on. The van is a 5 ton van which is mot exempt, subject to a mandatory 6 week recorded check, meaning anything picked up on is sorted there and then, as for the rust, it’s a 15 year old van which is out working every day, regardless whether you think it’s dangerous or not, it’s not, it’s not structural so even on an mot it couldn’t be failed, there’s nothing in the manual to tell a tester that that needs failing due to corrosion

It's illegal to leave the vehicle with engine running but the engine was switched off. Looks like the keys to open the vehicle are different to the ignition key. The police generally allow the cash carry vans to park as close as they can to the collection/delivery point. The vehicle was battered but the rust had not gone through the body, tyres are OK so it would be OK to be on the road. The driver will probably lose his job now.

@@juliandavies1974 absolutely illegal unless you’ve used the force to lift the car on to the pavement. “Highway Code rule 145 You MUST NOT drive on or over a pavement, footpath or bridleway except to gain lawful access to property, or in the case of an emergency. Laws HA 1835 sect 72 & RTA 1988 sect 34” So driving on a pavement is illegal. Therefore having to drive on a pavement to your chosen parking spot is illegal.

It's taxed, MOT'd and insured, but that corrosion is very bad! I'm guessing there might be a a problem with the ignition switch or immobiliser in the key, which is probably why they're left in the ignition. I doubt you'd be able to get into the vehicle anyway, they're armoured, and the driver has other keys to get into it.

No the website is saying the MOT expired on the 1st of April 2021, so it's not even insured because insurers don't cover when there's no MOT.

They are armoured, side doors have iron bolts and an air lock in the rear with fingerprint access actually.. you would never get into it easily!

WTH? Are you not allowed to leave your keys in the ignition in the UK? It's a dumb idea to do, but its an offense? In New Zealand, we would call that a self-generation deterrent, when you do it, and if someone stole it, you don't have the car. Fine enough! * To be real, we are not perfect in NZ, it might get stolen, but if left in the door say, your just as likely to get someone knocking on your door to let you know, or just pulling them out popping them on the floor in the car out of sight and closing the door.

A company vehicle should be kept in a safe road worthy condition, however the first driver is responsible for doing a walk around vehicle check to ensure the vehicle is in a safe condition before leaving the depot, as it's his responsibility whilst he in charge and any defects found would could be on driver's licence if it's in a unroadworthy condition,
