Yeah that's true! You don't want to have COVID for an audition! That would probably be worse than having a cold in an audition

This was so helpful thank you! Would you be open to doing a video about the schools you applied to and which ones you got into and what made you pick NYU? Thank you!!!
@MadisonHalla4 жыл бұрын
I made this video on how to create your college list: (kzbin.info/www/bejne/amayXqKNr92We8U) and I mentioned some of the schools I applied to in that video. I won't be going into too much detail about all the schools I got into and didn't, but I do want to make a video in the future talking in-depth about NYU's Steinhardt's musical theatre program!

@Caitlyn Carvalho What do you mean by category? Uptempo/Ballad or Golden Age/Contemporary? And I’m not quite sure about song recommendations, I can’t think of any I know that fit the criteria you have.
@MadisonHalla2 жыл бұрын
@Caitlyn Carvalho No no sorry! I was saying that I was confused by what you were asking
@MadisonHalla2 жыл бұрын
@Caitlyn Carvalho I like the first one, for the second one I would recommend finding a song in English so that the casting team knows what you’re saying, or you could sing the English version of that song if it exists.
@MadisonHalla2 жыл бұрын
@Caitlyn Carvalho Specific characters - I’m not sure. Maybe you can ask your theatre teacher or do some research online.

Hello! How do you tell if a song is overdone/underdone? thanks :)
@MadisonHalla Жыл бұрын
I often look up "is _____ overdone audition song" but you can always ask someone who knows a lot about theatre like a theatre teacher.

@@MadisonHalla Thanks! How do you tell if a song is underdone? Because I think that might be harder to figure out and I’m confused
@MadisonHalla Жыл бұрын
@@cm5061 I would agree that it's a little ore difficult for underdone songs, I would suggest asking a theatre teacher or someone who knows musical theatre songs.

Do you have any good contrasting ballad suggestions for an alto with a high soprano head voice?
@MadisonHalla4 жыл бұрын
what are you contrasting it to? What song, and is it a contemporary or golden age song?

A soprano song I LOVE is Mister Snow!
@chloepainter32834 жыл бұрын
@@MadisonHalla Golden age and times are hard for dreamers from Amelie or everybody loves Louis from Sunday in the park with George. I was considering doing Mister Snow! also I got lost in his arms from Annie get your gun.
@MadisonHalla4 жыл бұрын
@@chloepainter3283 I don't think Mister Snow is that contrasting especially compared to Times are Hard for Dreamers because they have the same kind of feel. I like Lost in His Arms though! is I'm A Good Person from the show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend underdone? i know the lead actress and co-creator Rachel Bloom graduated from NYU Tisch so would auditors be familiar with it? is it too repetitve? great video btw :D
@MadisonHalla2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I’m not sure if it’s overdone, I’ve never heard of it so I don’t think it’s overdone. I don’t think that because she went to Tisch that it would make it a bad idea. The song is repetitive so you do want to make sure you add variety if you decide to use it. And make sure you decide what your objective is and really try and reach it as you sing.

Thank you!!

Also, I am a very emotional actress I channel a lot of Bernadette Peters (at least I'm told) and I was wondering if in pre-screens you should dial it back or really push it and give all the emotion you can?
@MadisonHalla4 жыл бұрын
I don't think you should force anything, you should act naturally however that it. Play to your objective and don't think about who you resemble at the moment and if you do resemble someone naturally you can't control that.

how long should 32 bars be? it varies SO MUCH from song to song but i've heard different people say around a minute or around a minute 45 seconds, which are very different, and i can never tell
@MadisonHalla4 жыл бұрын
Great question! The time each 32 bar cut will take will always vary because ballads are slower and 32 bars takes around a minute and a half plus where as uptempos take a shorter amount of time. There is no set time limit for a 32 bar cut. If you're asked to sing 32 bars then they won't care if you sing 45 seconds to over a minute. Usually they ask for a time constraint instead of a measure constraint. So you shouldn't have to worry too much the time length of your 32 bar cut!

Is if I can’t love her from beauty and the beast too much of a pity song?
@MadisonHalla3 жыл бұрын
For any pity song, they’re ok if you can make the ending something hopeful and have an objective of something they want to get. If it’s just them accepting failure then it’s probably not the best choice.

hey I was thinking about doing for my uptempo song " times are hard for dreamers" from amelie.... what do you think?
@MadisonHalla4 жыл бұрын
I don't think the song is overdone to the point you can't use it which is a positive! I also think the song has some REALLY great potential for awesome acting moments and it's such a beautiful and positive song! One of my friends did a cut starting from "off the train in Paris" to "it's only what I have in store that matters now, the past can only fade, and all I need is here, this is how my world gets made." I don't know if that's too short or too long it's probably about 32 bars. If you do a different cut just make sure you try not to repeat anything because it can get a little repetitive but I think it's a great audition song!
@MadisonHalla4 жыл бұрын
I would also try and make sure your ballad is very contrasting and slower because "Times are Hard for Dreamers" is a slower uptempo so you want to juxtapose it with something that will really contrast and show off a range you have a as singers for switching between styles and tempos and such. Best of luck!!
