I've definitely benefitted from your help on the layering necklaces, which I also saw in an older video. I had some and really wasn't making them work. Now I am, and I like them. I'm also going to experiment with one that has a vintage piece, based on that advice. Your three color rule has also been so useful. My neutrals are olive, camel and brown, which already look a little busier than the typical gray, black, white and navy. Even though those three match with teal, the color I wear most, all four together (for example teal shirt, camel jacket, olive pants and brown boots) does look like a bit too much. This is also helpful guidance for planning a capsule, especially thinking about footwear.

Excellent tips, Audrey! I once wore a new jacket for several months thinking the flap pockets were just “cosmetic” until a friend pointed out that I just needed to snip the threads that were holding them closed. 🤭

I bought several times some second hand blazers and they all still had the pockets stitched. So many people do not know. I myself found out a couple of years ago when my grandma took my new blzer to remove all tags and threads peeking out and them she started cutting out the threads of the pockets. I was amazed 😅😅

So glad you mentioned cutting out temporary stitchings! Another thing would be to seam rip your pockets. Most of my clothes are thrifted/secondhand and it amazes me how many people donate jackets/coats with the pockets still sewn shut!

Sometimes, that ruins the look, though... 😕 I once cut the pockets of a dress open- and immediately, the dress started to look "slouchy". I since have left pockets alone (on blazers, anyway). 👋👋 Fellow thrift shop lover here! 😊

Hello Z! I leave my pockets stitched (as long as it's not visible from the outside, of course) or stitch them shut myself. I'm an old woman and was taught, in school, that ladies never put their hands in their pockets or carry anything in them. The only exterior pocket I unstitch is the breast pocket on a blazer, so I can accessorize with a cute pocket square. But trouser and dress pockets? Never!

I have a hanging jewelry box, and I installed a row of hooks underneath, which I started using to hang my necklaces when I am in a hurry, but then I discovered they worked really well for playing with necklace combinations! I can take several different ones and hang them to see how they look together, and mix and match until I feel good about the combination - saves time from trying them all on! Then once I have a combo that looks good on the hook, I'll try it on to make sure they all work together.

I understand about removing the threads needed during transit from a jacket. I have some dress pants with hip pockets with the slit opening stitched closed. I thought that stitching should be removed, as for a jacket. But after removing it, I thought the slit would have looked nicer, neater, if the stitching had been left in place. (I would not be putting anything in the locket anyway.) Guess I should hand baste them closed again. Enjoy your videos so much :)

Shekinah Lawrence I wish I could, but the one I used in this video actually tarnished really quickly. In the past I’ve had better luck with plated ones I bought at the craft store ❤️
@2Blessed4 жыл бұрын
Those extenders are pretty inexpensive, and can be found at craft stores and any place they sell jewelry making parts. I have a bunch of them, and they sometimes do tarnish, but then I just replace them. I think I got some at Walmart for a couple of dollars for a pack of 5. If you search on Amazon for "necklace extender" you should also find some there.
@lizcademy48094 жыл бұрын
A place to get the extender, as well as chains of different lengths, and other "bits and pieces" of jewelry is Fire Mountain Gems, or any other jewelry making supply store. I'm not affiliated with FMG, but I have ordered from them.
@irairod51604 жыл бұрын
@@AudreyCoyne If I may, I'd like to recommend a contraption called "Necklet". It's like the necklace layering-helper you showed, but magnetic, which makes getting everything on and off a lot easier once they've been layered. I've had mine for about 5 months and it hasn't tarnished. I suggested it to others on your comments but figured you might want to try it, too, since you often talk about your love for layering pieces. Now, for things that I know will likely tarnish immediately, like very, very inexpensive jewelry findings...I spray them with matte transparent paint from a can, or "paint" them with "matte top coat" nail polish. They last for years that way! Obviously, I wouldn't do that to something that's a good piece of jewelry, but for necklace extenders, French earring hooks, and other things that are not the main focus, the transparent paint coat works well.

Audrey, is there a rule as to when to wear Draping Long Scarves versus small neck scarves? Do you ever mix scarves and necklaces?
@thekingsdaughter42334 жыл бұрын
Sometimes long, flowing scarves are just not practical; so there is that to consider (as much as I love long scarves). At worst, remember Isadora Duncan. 😨😢 I love the look of silk scarf paired with a pearl necklace! The scarf triangular and loosely knotted in front (color a bit on the darker side, like Audrey's perhaps) or like Audrey's third style, and a short pearl necklace peeking through from underneath. 😊 While the Queen is not necessarily known as a style icon, she rocks that look when in the countryside. Ladies in Agatha Christie movies do, too. 😉 And there are great tutorials on KZbin on variations. For some styles, you might want to use a faux pearl necklace as not to damage the "good" ones. 😊👍

@@thekingsdaughter4233 Thank you!! I sometimes wonder if it's about proportion as well. A neck scarf for cardigans and sweaters, and then larger, longer scarves for midi sweaters and coats or long wide leg pants. But then I like small neck scarf with small top with wide leg long pants too!
