Growing up in Phx, I always know this tunnel for 2 things. 1. Holding your breath and making a wish. 2. Almost every day on the traffic report hearing "crash in the tunnel..."

Honestly the main reason now is because cars have auto lights. Cars lights end up turning on so it looks like they are breaking (which they aren't), but it causes a chain reaction and others start to break thinking the first cars are breaking. I see it every single time in there. It's pretty funny and frustrating at the same time. It never fails that going in there the traffic will slow down.

Wow! I remember the days of cars without DRLs but to see it in video is strange. When you see SO FEW cars on the road AND none of them have their lights on during the day, times were sure different 33 years ago!

Believe it or not, I have never been on top of that tunnel and I lived in Phoenix all my life. 😂

The biggest cause is idiots who tailgate. I'm sure we've all see that line of 4 or 5 cars off the side because they were all following way too closely, and the first car needed to brake, and they all bumped into each other. 3 second rule! (5 in rain)

I was born Aug 27th 1990 in Prescott but lived in Phx from 2yrs-22yrs Kind of cool that they finished this the month I was born!!

I was there on opening day. I have driven through it thousands of times and only had 1 accident. And it was nothing more then a hit and run tiny fender bender.

Back went Phoenix was special and an amazing place. Now its a copy of LA and its suburbs, crime and over crowding.

Now only druggies live in the deck park, maintenance is non existent on the black hole, pigeons roost in every nook and cranny. The tunnel is ridiculous.

Totally, the 4,777,000 people in the Phoenix metro area should all just be riding on surface streets today, wouldn't that be great? And the wonders NOT completing that stretch of the 10 would have done for our economy! Yeah, huge waste of money that we certainly never recouped.
