Often referred to as Pipe Jacking
Allen Watson operates boring equipment with jacking forces from 44te to 260te and rotary torques in excess of 110,000ft.lbs (150,000Nm) Allen Watson owns and operates the widest and most versatile range of auger boring systems for underground trenchless work.
With an array of cutting heads, lubricating and monitoring equipment, we provide an ideal solution for the installation of steel casings and ducts where conventional open cut methods are not permitted, practical, environmentally or economically viable.
Auger boring provides a safe method of installing pipes and cable ducts while supporting the ground during the bore. Continuous flights (contained within a steel pipe) are rotated and simultaneously pushed into the ground. As the bore progresses the ground is cut and the auger flights convey the material back into the work pit.
The Advantages of Auger Boring
Can operate from a shaft as small as 2.40mØ
Dry method of installation - does not generate slurry
No disruption to surface, buildings, road, river, rail or traffic
By boring underground the working area is confined to points of entry and exit only
Unaffected by surface obstacles
Can be used to install pipes in changeable ground conditions
Is quick and in many cases has lower overall costs
Typical Applications
Pipes and ducts from 100mmØ up to 1200mmØ, in distances from 5 metres up to 140 metres have been successfully installed under railways, roads, rivers, airports, buildings, contaminated landfill sites and Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
Crossings can be for water, oil, gas, electricity, sewerage, chemicals, communication ducts and outfalls
