Don't mean to diminish the importance of this information but it hasn't done much to augment the quality of my life.

As someone who was struggling with this in their aural skills class right before finals, you are a lifesaver!

Diminished chords sound like something bad happened. Augmented chords sound like your reality was just decapitated.

Super helpful practice! The repeated chords followed by the arpeggio make this extremely helpful - I've found it's good practice to be able to sing the notes in the chord, and the arpeggio lets me check my work. Thanks for leaving in your in-activity realization of the augmented inversion sameness - I'd never thought about how all of their inversions would sound the same!

What is the specific difference you listen for when determining an augmented from a diminished? thats the issue im having because i cant hear a specific difference i tried to see if maybe the augmented carries on for longer than the diminished but it doesnt sound like it really does to me. is an augmented supposed to be more airy and light than a diminished? If so is there something that i can do tell the difference better?

A diminshed chord always has a tritone in there, giving more the feeling of suspense to release. Try to see a diminshed chord as the 3,5 and 7 of a dominant 7 chord. Maybe that will help you distinguish them.

To me the augmented sounds like it wants to resolve to the nearest major chord. Diminished to me sounds like it wants to resolve to the nearest minor chord, or to a major chord that’s far like V to 1

Of course I forgive you, it is still a very helpful video and who on this planet does not make mistakes. The key is that you learned something new from making a mistake and that my dear is one of the true keys to life, learning from your mistakes. When you get my age you will learn to embrace your mistakes as babies do when they are trying to learn to crawl!
