*The Augmented Scale* Some more outside sounds in this weeks lesson, the scale that you can use even when it doesn't really fit! This lesson will shortly describe the augmented scale, how it is constructed. Some of the arpeggios it contains. I'll also give a few basic exercises and some melodic ideas that I might use when I use the scale in an improvisation. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYXceJylbMunisU The examples are available here with some explanations and also a pdf download: bit.ly/AugScale Hope you can use it! #guitar #youtube #guitarlesson #jazzguitar #PDF

Thank you! Good luck with it! The triad pair is a triad triplet isn't it?
@MrJimzovich7 жыл бұрын
Yes, the patterns naturally fall that way, but I'm trying to change the phrasing to make it more interesting, and mixing augmented ideas with the whole tone and diminished scales. Thanks for the superb lessons!

awesome lesson man, i love the major triad concept, really creative things could come out of that. Is there a use for augmented chords in progressions? is there a song that has a min maj7 chord as a tonic?
@JensLarsen8 жыл бұрын
+marco escalante (enlo) Thank you Marco! There are lot's of songs with a minor tonic, which also makes the chord a minMaj7. Try to check out Solar or You don't know what love is. Also Chelsea Bridge has chords in the beginning where this coukd ben used

Very popular scale among contemporary composers such as Messien, Bartok and Dutilleux.
@JensLarsen7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is also a subset of one of the messiaen modes though I forgot which number. The one with 9 notes :)
@JensLarsen7 жыл бұрын
No 9. First three notes of a minor scale from each note of an augmented triad, C D Eb - E F# G - Ab Bb B

This scale sounds very much like harmonic minor mixed with melodic minor
@JensLarsen3 ай бұрын
Ok, I don't really hear that 🙂

@@JensLarsen listen to Nuestra Cobardía by Los Tres Ases. Listen to the intro where he subs the V with a iv minor and plays f melodic minor. He leads into C major 7 to tie up the intro,that's the feeling I'm getting from this scale
@AntiquatedApe3 ай бұрын
@@JensLarsen i have done some meditation on why I hear the sounds I mentioned in my comment. Upon further inspection I don't hear harmonic minor,but the reason I think I'm hearing melodic minor is because I'm thinking of the context of G major where the V is substituted with iv. So iv of G is C minor and I believe C melodic minor over D7 gives an altered sound? I'm not really well versed in theory,I just know it sounds really good in the songs I've heard in context

Can you play this over any Maj7 chord to get the Maj7#5 sound?
@JensLarsen8 жыл бұрын
You can use this on any Maj7 chord, but it will always sound funny. Actually you can always play anything over anything, it will be up to you and the listeners taste whether it sounds good...
