In Today’s video, I am going to be showing you how I make AuGratin Potatoes from my dehydrated potato slices. If you want scalloped potatoes, replace the cheese soup with water or milk, and add in a medium onion, sliced thin.
I like to add bacon to mine, and sometimes onion. Sometimes when it is time to take off the cover I sprinkle on a little shredded cheese. Add what makes YOU happy. You can use liquid milk in place of the water and omit the powdered milk (I usually replace 1-1/2 cups water with milk if I am doing that). You just want to make sure you have right around 3 to 3-1/2 cups liquid.
I use this recipe to make “meal in a jar” or “side dish in a jar”. I put the dehydrated potatoes ito a quart jar, then add all the dry ingredients to a zipper bag and put it in the jar with the following instructions: Place potatoes in casserole dish. Sprinkle seasoning packet over potatoes. Dot with 3 tablespoons butter. Combine 2 ½ cups boiling water with 1 can of cheddar soup. Pour over potatoes. Bake covered, 40-45 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

AuGratin Potatoes
3 cups dehydrated potatoes
1/2 cup powdered milk
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons cornstarch
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon dried parsley or chives
Additions of choice (bacon crumbles, onion, garlic, bell peppers)
3 tablespoons butter
2 1/2 cups boiling water
1 can cheddar cheese soup (omit for scalloped potatoes)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place potato slices in a medium casserole dish. Combine remaining dry ingredients and sprinkle over potatoes. Dot with butter. Combine boiling water and cheese soup. Pout over potatoes and stir gently.
Cover. Bake at 350 degrees until potatoes are tender, about 40-45 minutes. Uncover last 5-10 minutes to allow top to slightly brown. Let these rest 5-10 minutes to allow sauce to thicken up.

if your oven goes low enough you could use it for dehydrating, and until you get a vacuum sealer, you can buy oxygen absorbers to store in with your foods.

I use it in several of my dehydrated "meal in a jar" kits. Anywhere that I would use milk, I put in the right amount of powdered milk with the rest of my ingredients and put them in a little bag in the jar with my dehydrated items to make them so all I have to do is add water. I try to keep a few on hand in case we are out of power or something like that.

I love dehydrated onions. My neighbors complained the last time I dehydrated (I don't blame them, our entire floor smelled like onions for days) so I am out of my own... but am going to be able to do them outside on my patio this summer so I will be able to re-stock my dehydrated onions and dehydrated peppers.

No, but I can make one. Have been trying to think up some new video ideas, maybe some dehydrated meal in a jar recipes every once in a while would be a good idea.

Thank you for the recipe. I have a question though... Do you keep your canned butter on the kitchen counter? I keep my salted regular butter out, but have heard that my canned butter has to be refrigerated after opening?

I keep mine on the counter. Usually in my butter bell, but only because I like the way it looks. I have left the jar out as well.

yes, it is re-canned cheese sauce. I get the big cans from Sams or Walmart and separate it out into small jars, WB 20 minutes. I use it for my Mac&Cheese too. I just picked up a can yesterday, so I will be posting a video when I re-can it this week.

This looks spoon good. I think I'm actually going to do it your way instead of my way. I will have to reinvent the cheese ingredients. I only have parmesean so I think that will usually work. I usually use the parmesean and an evaporated milk

Hope you enjoy! you can always make cheese sauce and add to it... just the regular flour, milk, butter, and grated cheese. I have done it that way before too. Parmesan and Eevap sounds good too. I might have to give that a try.

Thanks! I love having a dehydrator. The vacuum sealer is nice, but sometimes I use a brake bleeder instead of getting the sealer out, especially if I am only sealing a couple of jars.
