This is amazing. It's so crazy how some things work like magic and others do nothing. Between my paint pouring journey and becoming a fish enthusiasts and selective breeder the amount of science that goes into both had really enhanced from the anti science adolescent I was in the late 90s finishing high school 😂 For both knowing rations, finding what works and knowing color theory have played huge roles in getting results.

I'm so glad you made this video! BTW super clear and helpful instructions Tara! I'm pretty sure that I have done exactly what you did with the Goldens gloss pouring medium. I did it because the two are supposed to be the same thing. So naturally, I just grabbed what ever was in reach.😏 I measure but I keep large batches of base coat colors on hand. Do you think I should only mix up enough for the pour I'm doing that day? You sound better, I hope you feel a lot better too! Great to see your video! But, please take extra good care of yourself!😊🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Tks so much for sharing all these info, I really appreciate you art and I always learn a lot in watching your videos. I have one question: does this paint over recipe you just shared work only with white? Can we use this paint over recipe with a fluid or tube paint of any color (good quality paint such as Amsterdam or Golden)?
@PiecesofTaraArtistry5 ай бұрын
@@Gennytrot Your welcome Genny! Yes you can use it with good quality paints. When you do it as a pour over color you want to make sure the density of the paint is heavy. That’s why white or anything g with titanium works, also why lamp black or Payne’s grey works. They are all heavier…density wise than other paints. ☺️🙏🏻❤️

Hi there, First of all I just wanted to thank you so very much for all you do to help new artist like me.. Just had a question. Can I use some gloss medium in my base paint if Im using gac 800? Ive never used the Goldens color medium before. Just checking to see because Im just fine using the recipes as you said. Just popped in my head because I heard you say it was gloss. Im gonna mix my paints tonight and was just curious. I surely dont want to mess my paints up. God knows Ive done that alot. I guess I have 2 questions now, I apologize. I wanted to try and practice with just paint and water for a flower bloom so I dint waste a bunch of stuff. Can you by chance tell me the ratio of paint to water. Again I want to say thank you so very much for all you do.. Have a very nice day..
@PiecesofTaraArtistry11 ай бұрын
Hello! To answer your first question - no need to add the gloss. Just use the GAC 800. It works just fine on its own. 2. With water and paint it honestly isn’t cheaper to use just water because you have to use so much. Even adding extender like water. You are better off adding floetrol and water to your mix. Kinella Ciraco has good mix for her Dutch pour paints that is just floetrol and water. I use my pouring medium of GAC800 and floetrol mixed 50/50. That being said you can use about 40-50% water with highly pigmented paints like Amsterdam. I would not use just water with craft paints like DecoArt and equivalent. There’s not enough binder in those paints so the pigments will break up if you add too much water. I I hope this helps! ☺️🙏🏻❤️

Thank you for this information! I am wondering if I can use anything else that would work rather than GAC 800 for the pour over d/t cost?
@PiecesofTaraArtistry3 ай бұрын
Thanks Martha! You can try omitting it but it really does help with the binders to keep all the pigments together. When you are using that much water it really starts to break down the binders in the paint and then you get broken pigments and it look yucky. But you can give it a whirl!

Do you know WHY the GAC color pouring medium doesn’t work in both the base and colors? I had heard that Golden was telling people that the color PM and GAC 800 are basically the same thing. And can you use GAC 800 in both the base and colors? How about Liquitex PM? (Gray label)
@PiecesofTaraArtistry Жыл бұрын
I had heard the same thing and it is not true. If you open the bottles and even look at it side by side you see that the golden color pouring medium has a much more distinct gloss medium…which is totally fine. They are not and do not need to be the same. That being said…in this technique the gloss on gloss doesn’t work. One one gloss can happen in this equation. I’m not exactly sure if the science but if you check out Gina Deluca’s channel she has lots to say about the hydrophobic effect from gloss vs matte mediums. 🙏🏻☺️❤️
@Andrea-Rae Жыл бұрын
@@PiecesofTaraArtistrythanks for the response! I’ll have to give the color pouring medium a try now that I know it’s different. I actually made a batch of your colored Pearl base a couple of days ago and I used a mix of GAC 800 and Liquitex PM in place of the Golden Color Pouring Medium that I didn’t have. I’m going to try it today so hopefully it still works.

Sooooo! If one used GAC800 in base color formula ( you said it could be substituted for Golden Gloss PM) and then GAC 800 in the pour over colors will the pearling still happen ?!? Txz jeanne
@PiecesofTaraArtistry2 ай бұрын
Hi Jeanne! So gac800 in the base and in the pour over is fine…you will still get pearls. You can use golden color pouring medium in the base and Gac 800 in the pour over colors and you will get pearling. You CANNOT use golden color pouring medium in the base and in the pour over colors and get pearling. For some reason that does not work. I hope this helps! ☺️
@jeannecain95412 ай бұрын
Don’t think my question must be clear but is it a problem to use only GAC 800 in base and colors and still get pearls ( since there wouldn’t be the contrast of gloss and no gloss , so to speak…?!?). Also is Behr 7300 still being made? Txz!

I just saw this video reg the Golden colour pouring medium (gloss). I live in DK and cannot get the GAC 800, so I bought the colour pouring medicin (gloss), as I read somewhere that it was the same as the GAC 800. Now I know that it’s not the case. I’m also having problems with cells … I get some, but not enough. In the base I normally use floetrol, Golden colour pouring medium and a bit of Liquitex PM and water of course. I actually add the same in my colours. Could I just leave out the Golden colour pouring medium in the colours and just use the floetrol and liquitex pouring medium, do you think ?
@PiecesofTaraArtistry3 ай бұрын
This is a loaded question! If you are not trying to create pearls the pouring mediums shouldn’t matter too much. Cells come from different paint densities. And how they are layered. Like a DecoArt metallic gold is very very light so when layered under a heavier (more dense) color like a titanium white the lighter color will pop up through that heavier titanium white in bubbles and make cells. You may want to look up paint densities and their ability to make cells in fluid art. There is a wonderful- technical article on Golden’s website that even has a pigment density chart. I hope this helps.

@@PiecesofTaraArtistry oh sorry, I meant pearls (language barriers :-) )
@PiecesofTaraArtistry3 ай бұрын
What type of Satin Enamel are you using in your base coat? I’m thinking that it’s the gloss in the color pouring medium is part of the problem and I feel like the gloss in the Liquitex might hinder the pearls as well. You could try it. You could also try eliminating the pouring medium in your pour over colors and just use floetrol and water if you would like and see what happens.
@tinasusanneeriksen60273 ай бұрын
@ I’m using the decoart satin enamel white (couldn’t get the pure white). I am just mixing up some colours right now. I will try to leave out the colour pouring medium in the colours (but keep it in the base) at first. If I’m still experiencing problems, I will mix some new colours and leave out the Liquitex PM. I’m using Liquitex basic colours. I also got Amsterdam and System 3. Artist loft is not available in DK, sadly. Neither is charvin, decoart, modern masters etc …. I just ordered some some pigments from Colourarte, but it takes a while before I get them :-) there’s a long way from th States to small Denmark 😂

If you say base paint , do you mean pillow paint?
@PiecesofTaraArtistry Жыл бұрын
Hello! This is different than a shelee bloom. In that technique it is called a pillow paint (which is very thick)... In this technique it is a base coat that is underneath the rest of your colors and it is very thin. It helps the paint on top move smoothly and it allow the reaction from the satin enamel to pop up through the other colors to get these pearly looking cells. Hope that helps!

@brenda33181bs9 ай бұрын
You never stated what your weights were. You say parts but we dont know how many ounces you are measuring.
@PiecesofTaraArtistry9 ай бұрын
Hi Brenda! I say parts because you can add any amounts you want. Some people like to measure up large batches. Some like to measure small. Some are in the metric system some are in the imperial system. When you work in parts it is easier to convert to whichever way you like to measure best. Here’s an example: 3 parts floetrol = 3 oz, or 3 cups, or 3 teaspoons 2 parts paint = 2 oz, or 2 cups, or 2 teaspoons You could use cups, ounces, teaspoons, milliliters to make that recipe into any amount you like. Parts is just a more general way to measure which allows you to decide how much you want to make. The key is keeping consistent with your measurements. For example only use ounces or only use cups or only use teaspoons and use the precise parts that are in the recipe. I hope this helps!

@PiecesofTaraArtistry I have another question. Right after you've finished a painting ,where and how do you store them to dry without it getting stuck to the surface ?
@laurienye751411 ай бұрын
You have me so confused I don't know. Why would start out with the Old one and then the New one, and all that pour over stuff is really confusing. So sorry Tara, I love your work.
@PiecesofTaraArtistry11 ай бұрын
Hi Laurie! So…I’m not sure where the confusion is. I feel like I am very specific in my instructions. I show you the wrong because in previous videos I share the wrong recipe and people were having trouble with it so for demonstration purposes I show you the wrong way to do it so that you understand the results of doing it incorrectly. If you had seen those videos and tried the recipe you would have see that was the case. As far as the pour over colors…I’m not sure where the confusion is on this either. This is an advanced technique and there are many components that make it successful. The two very specific components are 1. The Satin Enamel Basecoat recipe & 2. The Pour Over Colors (pour over color recipe without satin enamel). These are the basics of this technique. Without these you will not have successful pearl pours. I totally understand this is a harder technique to get. If you would like one on one instruction I do offer zoom classes as well as I will be teaching this technique at FAE in Asheville, NC May 24, 2024. You can check out www.fluidartexperience.com for details! Hope this helps! ☺️
