I remember this as a really little kid , Disney was still legit in the 80s they made everything epic for a kid , the commercials made it a total time warp back to 86 .. good stuff!

21:48 blew my mind. When we recorded this off tv we paused the commercials, now as an adult watching this it just felt like a gnarly time warp.

According to a story bible by Haskell Barkin, the show would have included these details: ✝The Fluppies would become invisible whenever they sneeze. ✝Bink, Dink, and Ozzie would secretly occupy Jamie's treehouse (since Jamie and Claire could each only have one pet). They would enter through Stanley's doghouse, at the base of the tree, and go up an internal stairway to go up the treehouse since the Fluppies can't climb trees. The exterior of the treehouse looks like a slapdash construction of scrap lumber, but inside is a jungle of extension cords, mechanical and electronic parts, weird gadgets, half-built inventions, tools, and blueprints. ✝Despite being in the series bible, Jamie's father Arthur Bingham, an image-conscious insurance salesman, wasn't seen in the TV special. Jamie's mother is named Marge. ✝Claire's parents, who don't appear in the TV special, are Ernie, a hot tub salesman, and Wanda Webster, who wants to be her daughter's best friend. ✝Stanley, the blue Fluppy, is the emotional focus of the group due to his optimism and enthusiasm, although not the most intelligent of the five Fluppies. Stanley is a bit of a con man when circumstances call for it. ✝Ozzie, the green Fluppy, is self-effacing, somewhat simple, and the group's voice of reason. Ozzie's nose can sniff out dimensional doors. ✝Tippi, the violet Fluppy, is the assertive and level-headed unofficial leader of the Fluppies. Like Stanley, Tippi takes Ozzie at face value and doesn't pay much attention to his ideas. ✝Bink the yellow Fluppy and Dink the orange Fluppy are hyperactive young twins and born tinkerers. Although Fluppy science and technology are at the 18th-century level, the Twins sense the uses and potential of our world's mechanical and electronic artifacts, making inventions of Rube Goldberg proportions. Like most twins, they bicker a lot, which is their way of communicating with each other. ✝The thousands of other Fluppies who entered our world each have the potential for magic and must pass as normal dogs to escape the harassment of human science and the press. During the day they act like household pets, but at night, they explore our world with their owners none the wiser. One semi-regular character is a pink girl Fluppy named Fanci, who lives with a human girl who is younger than Jamie. ✝J. J. Wagstaff wasn't mentioned in the bible, but other antagonists were to include Susan Saccharine, the world's worst newscaster-reporter, and her incompetent cameraman, Lenscap; Professor Woolsey, chairman of an organization dedicated to capturing rare and unusual animals; and Wayne, a clumsy kid in Jamie's class. Whenever he spotted a Fluppy, Wayne would have to be persuaded that he didn't see it or bribed to keep quiet. ✝The series was to have three general types of stories: the Fluppies complicating the lives of Jamie and/or Claire; the main Fluppies helping out other Fluppies who have come into our world; and stories featuring the dimensional doorways, in which our heroes would go through into a different world or something would come out into our world.

There was also a major late-in-the-game change in the animated story and character designs … and no one forgot to tell the people in charge of making the merchandise; as a result, it all looked completely different from the cartoon. That and the fact that the original broadcast was up against THE COSBY SHOW doomed it.

*Differences from the book* ___________________________ The Fluppy Dogs merchandise (including dolls, coloring books, and puzzles) released in the 1980s featured images based on a children's book, which were apparently based on preliminary designs for the Fluppies. These were slightly different from the designs that appeared in the actual pilot film. In the book, the Fluppy Dogs are as follows: Fanci Flup (pink/white with a pink hairbow), Cuddle Flup (purple/white with two purple hairbows), Brave Flup (blue/white with a plaid bandana), Cool Flup (green/white with sunglasses), Shy Flup (peach/white with a flowered hat), and Silly Flup (yellow/white with two yellow hairbows).

A Twitter post sent me here ... sure. Let's watch the entire movie. 1:11 - Final Boss of Defunctland sighting So ... this is Furry Sliders? The first adult to notice these bipedal Technicolor dogs can talk is the villain. " Just stay out of my way! " mere moments before all of the Fluppies are captured. Where is the first place the villain is going to look? Certainly not the pound! The Fluppies assume being chosen means being freed instead of, you know, death. The woman's son seems like the least likable character in this special. " Mom's gonna kill me! " - Is she? You only had the dog for about five minutes. Nothing gets someone in your corner quite living saving their life in the most intricate way possible, I guess. Why didn't Stanley just tell Jamie what was going on to begin with? Why didn't Stanley or Jamie just tell Jamie's mom what was going on!? The average cost to adopt a dog is about $200 in 2019. Jamie had $200 in addition to the $200 Stanley his mother bought for him. Once again, Jamie fails to tell his mom what's going on for no particular reason. If Jamie wasn't going to tell the truth, anyway, why show his mom the second dog? JJ McVillainface is slightly inconvenienced by the Pound's closing. He knows where the Fluppies are. He can't wait 8 hours? This kid is making over $500 a month from mowing lawns and allowing. The 80s were bangin'! " Breaking into places is against the law! " So was trespassing on that construction site earlier. So the Fluppies would rather be treated like primitive dog-slaves than "freaks". If I were to guess, Jamie will break his promise before this special was over (Edit: I was wrong!). So they're dead, right? Stanley assumes the kid who has shown no magical ability in this world without magic made the bed fly. " This is fun! " Nearly dying? Stanley convinces Jamie to break the law in the span of about five minutes. FOR ADVENTURE. They flew through the city and back without anyone noticing. Have to unlock 20 locks to get into the pound, but just one to get out! The Fluppies don't free any of the "primitive" dogs. Think JJ McVillainface will just check to see who adopted dogs earlier in the day and check their houses? Of course not. Too easy. Jamie and Stanley are eating fried chicken for breakfast. The adults on this show are surprisingly lenient. Jamie is allowed to both leave class and school grounds during school hours. The Fluppies are risking being trapped forever in a dangerous world for the sake of ADVENTURE. What are the odds the villains will be driving by the manhole the group is washed out of? Surprisingly good, it seems. Rich ol' JJ McVillainface does what he should've in the first place; get the rabble involved. To put it into perspective, he's offering almost $12,000 in 2019 dollars for one Fluppy. Or $58,000 for them all. Edit: This plot point is never brought up again. The green Fluppy trolling Candy got a chuckle out of me. So ... Jamie doesn't go back to school, does he? The Fluppies open the door over Jamie's better judgement. Surprise; he was right. 35:29 - Might be the best part of this hour. Jamie's mom does not ground him after he cuts school, doesn't finish his homework and disobeys her twice in five minutes. Three of the Fluppies head out to look for the door during what has got to be one of the most dangerous parts of the day (Rush Hour). What are the odds that the door home is in this city? Surprisingly good, it seems. Of course the Fluppy the villain captures is the one with the key and power to get the others home. Stanley decides to bail on Jamie rather than tell his mother the truth. Is Candy a teenager? An adult? She sneaks off in the middle of the night and no one questions this. JAMIE sneaks off in the middle of the night and no one questions this! " Maybe this is an ordinary dog. " - It's green. Stanley and Tippi run into a trap -- and in doing so prove the villain right. Putting all of the Fluppies together seems like a bad idea. What are the odds Jamie and Candy will find the room the captured Fluppies are in? Surprisingly good. JJ McVillainface seems ... surprisingly hospitable to these kids who broke into his house. Jamie and Candy should really cut their losses, regroup and come back for the Fluppies. That seems more favorable then what actually happened; stealing half of this man's house and crashing it in the middle of the city. Everyone survives this. Jamie doesn't want to leave his mom to go ADVENTURE -- even though even she will ground him forever if she learned the extent of what he's done. Ozzie feels like a third wheel in this ADVENTURE. He's probably my favorite of this bunch. Having the villains go through the door with the Fluppies is one way to get out of a felony level of trouble, I guess. The special ends with Stanley and Friends end up coming back to their friends on Earth ... and bringing hundreds of other Fluppies.

I remember recording this way back in November '86 on VHS, and following it was "Kingdom Chumbs" which was another animated film I haven't seen in over 30 years. I accidentally recorded over it and even the old Panasonic VCR was stolen. I never knew this was some pilot of a series, I thought it was like Bambi, which explains why I couldn't find it for years. Kinda of lame Disney+ doesn't list this show. Oddly enough, I love the touch of keeping the 80's commercials.

3:24 Hmm. I’ve seen Dinosaurs much better looking than that. I wish they could’ve given it a little bit more of a realistic look. In other words the shape of it’s head is inaccurate. Plus, they have 3 toes. Only Ostriches have 2 toes.
