Today's rally in Philly, reminded me of some of the speeches Robert Kennedy made when he was running for the presidency in 1968. Talk about energy and hope...
@johnflannery2185Ай бұрын
I stood next to RFK giving a speech at Fordham University. A friend of ours, TR Ellis, was writing speeches for Bobby and he invited a few of his close friends to meet Bobby. We were about 10 feet away when Bobby opened up his remarks making personal references and acknowledgments. It was conversational and friendly. But when he turned to the speech it was as if he now inhabited himself in a more powerful frame of reference. His belief and the subject matter, and bridging his remarks to these matters seemed to make a difference. He started by saying that it is a Chinese curse to live in interesting times. And he said we were living in interesting times. He had the gift and we were sold before he got there. We all supported Bobby when he ran for president. But one or more people killed him after he won California - killed for what he believed, what he wanted to do, and what he would have done. TR Ellis was assigned the task of arranging the funeral train from NY to DC to be memorialized for ever. TR crashed after that and dropped out. I miss Bobby and TR. Others I’m told tried to bring him out of it but last I heard - no sale.
@karenmorris674Ай бұрын
@johnflannery2185 I was certainly impressed by Bobby and was deeply inspired by his quote: "Some men see things as they are and ask, why? I dream things that never were and ask, why not?" That really resonated with me and factored into my questioning lots of things and challenging the status quo and getting involved in civil rights/social justice and anti war activities. Those times for me, were marked by so many possibilities of what could be... From time to time, I remember the day he was assassinated and the aftermath.. What could have been..

Hi John. I turned into MSNBC's KZbin channel where I thought I would hear the speech, but it was just talking heads. I live 2 time zones away, and by the time an event from the East Coast is on KZbin, the live event is over. I'll catch it later. As I caught the "live" feed, Ari, the evening guy was talking, whom I like. So I listened while he made his point. He said, "There have been news cycles recently that, after you hear the news you want a shot of whiskey." When he said "recently" his body language changed, or his eyes rolled and he got a big laugh out of the two women he was sitting with. But then he continued, "with today's event, you feel like drinking Gatorade and go out for a run." You just described the Energy in today's event -- positive vibes. That's the fuel of this ticket. We have a smiling candidate for president, and her running mate is the coach who will make Americans believe in themselves again... and we've got their backs. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, John. Maybe see you again tomorrow?

I was Biden all the way, John, as you know, but found that rally in Philly totally inspiring as well. The return of joy in politics - all of it. It's true - the house went craziest when Walz said, "...not including Donald Trump's crimes..." - but did you notice that Walz shut down the chants of "lock him up" very quickly. I think that was his innate decency kicking in. He didn't want today's rally - his first national rally - our dem rally - deteriorating into a Trump rally. I mean who can forget 2015 and Hillary and all those disgusting chants of "lock her up" during Trump rallies? It was nauseating. It's not an accident that Walz coined the "weird" term for Trump/Vance/MAGA. Again, it signals the return of decency - the decency of callin 'em names without actually callin 'em names - you know?
