Following on from the last trip, I decided to explore the Aberffraw Estuary, which is the next one along from Malltraeth. The weather though, took a turn for the worse, and fully satisfied with what I'd achieved on this single outing, I decided to head home and get back to the grind. Within an hour of making the decision, and hitting the road, the weather remarkably bucked up, and so the decision was made to stop off at Llandudno West shore and do the Great Orme again. I have done this trip many times, and it really is a wonderful, unique paddle. Being North facing though, it is often a bit gloomy and foreboding, but that is all part of it's unique charm. Although I have done this trip many times, I have always wanted to do a video that would catch it at it's best. For me, that would be possibly mid to late May, or early June, when the bird life would be in full swing and quite spectacular around the Lighthouse area. I have definitely not captured any of that here, but still captured the mean, moody side of it, I hope. The Pier and Seafront of Llandudno really is quite special, I can think of no other Seafront in the UK that matches it's timeless sweep of splendour, Blackpool is certainly bigger but much more brash and gash. Setting out from West shore is the best option, at low water the main sea front is exposed as a shingle ankle breaker, further on is Rhos on Sea, putting you a long way from the action, though closer to Little Orme, and parking at these other areas is very difficult, one can usually obtain a space at West Shore, but a decent trolley is essential. But a decent trolley is essential anyway, and is the most important item of equipment after boat, blade, deck and B.C. This part of August 2016 was over, but before the month was out we headed up to Scotland on what was ultimately an ill-fated trip, but for one quite memorable paddle, and some excellent sight seeing.
