I’d guess it’s just for looks. Likely using a double pedal for primary kick. Easier to mic and get equal consistent sound. Riser looks a little cramped too, so maybe had to set it closer than usual

Matt’s great but a bit over rated. Adam gray from Texas in July is another level. Plus outside the genera you have guys like Matt halpern and Garstka. Beasts

All he does is play the same fills over and over. His “solos” are basically an abr song. Listen he’s good but it’s just rewashed
