Wonderful tour as usual. My sister went on holiday to Denmark recently, she is also an avid gardener, what a shame she came back the week before your open garden but hopefully she will start watching your channel as I’ve told her about your lovely garden. We have a similar scheme in the UK, I much prefer looking around people’s gardens rather than the big public gardens as they are more relatable to your own garden. Thank you both 🌻🌷🌸🌼

I hope your sister enjoyed Denmark! If ever she travels back over, we'll be sure to open the garden for her :) And we agree... visiting real people's gardens is much more interesting than the beautiful botanical gardens, etc. ALTHO those are also very very incredible and inspirational... but seeing what a neighbor does gives us a lot more hope :)

Hi You collect thousands of seeds from your plants,and I would say that you are over generous in your sowing. Your method has worked. Chopping and changing systems is no bad thing also. It's not about being right or wrong. It's the taking part in life. I love your interactions. A slip up ( if you can call it that) is very humerous sometimes. I won't judge either of you💯💞💯💞

We are super generous in our sowing for sure. We also sow a lot in order to sell at planting markets all spring -- just a fun hobby. But we'll scale back this year as it keeps us out of our garden too much. We'll grow just enough to attend a few markets in our area ...and just for fun ;)

Your gardens are so gorgeous and inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing your time, skills and knowledge with us. Also wanted to offer a plant suggestion. Consider growing Persicaria orientalis. It is an annual that can easily grow to 2.5 meters tall (or more). It is a later season bloomer and stays upright in the wind without staking. Lots of seeds for Lars to collect, too. 😍 Mine have been reliably (but not obnoxiously) self sowing for a couple of years. I read it can be invasive in some areas so check first, but I think its tall, whimsical form would make a fun addition to your incredible gardens. 🌱

@perennial-garden3 ай бұрын
@@emit8242 Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed the garden tour. Regarding your Sedum, black spots can be a sign of a few different issues. It could be due to overwatering, poor drainage, or a fungal disease. Sedums prefer well-drained soil and can be sensitive to too much moisture. You might want to check your watering routine and ensure the soil isn't staying too wet. Also, make sure they're planted in a spot with good air circulation. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Lars and Allan, Hello from Australia, There are many, many eucalyptus varieties, In every state in Australia there are different eucalyptus, and Koalas only eat from a specific type, and no other... You have inspired me so very much, Aren't any roses in Denmark? How did you get the Astrantias to grow from seeds, they are so hard to grow from seed. busily We have removed all our lawn to plant plants that flower so l can cut fro arrangements. Thanks so much, l have learned so much from you guys, l have found so many different plants that you grow, l have been busy shopping around to get the plants that you grow in your beautiful garden...Keep up the good work, Cheers, Mario
@perennial-garden3 ай бұрын
We'd love to see all those different varities! Lars has traveled to Australia when he was younger... but me and our son haven't (yet!). As for the Astrantia... they need cold stratification to sprout. We winter sow to help with that --- you can also place seeds in a damp paper towel, then seal them in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 6-8 weeks. We've tried that, too --- but winter sowing in our unheated glasshouse is just way easier :) Hope you're looking forward to a great spring, Mario! All the best from Denmark to down under :)

Your garden is so beautiful, you've done so well to create a beautiful space. I love making new plants from cuttings and collecting seeds too. I bought Maj Tai seeds from the internet but they didn't produce Maj Tai plants instead I think they produced their parent plants, because I believe Maj Tai is a cross. I got very pretty pale yellow flowers on one plant and peachy flowers with dark stems on others. Both are pretty but not Maj Tai. Perhaps you can divide your plant. youn Eucalyptus looks like Eucalyptus Gunnii. It is fairly hardy in the Uk. I grew one from a small plant. It survived in my garden for 10 years until we had a very cold winter a few years ago,, which killed it. This tree gros very tall. but if you cut it down you can still gro it as a shrub. Don't cut t down to the ground, Say about 4ft from the ground, if it gets too big and outgrows your space. Happy gardening 🙂

your garden is looking fantastic. I have most of the same plants as you but due to the terrible summer we have had in scotland the garden does not look as nice as yours. The gallardia you have can be split quite easily. And that's great with the Gallardia. We've never had much success with splitting them... but we'll certainly try again. I am a huge fan of their bright color this time of year... so we'll either save it or start again for sure.

We make our own compost, so when the bin gets full, we sprinkle that around here and there, too. Otherwise, we don't do anything else to our soil. Our hydrangeas don't get anything special... nor the rhododendron. We know they need different soil... but eh... they grow and they're happy... so we make it easy for ourselves :) As for pests.. this year has been terrible for slugs! My goodness. It's a constant battle... but now that everything is bigger, the battle doesn't seem as important as it did in early spring. We hunt for slugs every evening and most mornings. We've not had aphids or other pests this year... it's been so wet and that helps keep them out of our garden. Last year, we lost every single lupine to aphids. Sad. For discouraged... we have a rule... if it dies, it dies. We grow perennials mostly, so we know they'll come back. Or, like the lupines, they were totally destroyed so we had to start over this year. It's not easy... but we want the garden to be fun. So (it's harder for Lars :) ) we really try our best to treat it as something fun and not worry too much if something breaks in the wind (a real problem this summer!) or dries up when we go on holiday, etc. I wish I could say that we've figured it all out ;) But.. it's a work in progress. We have parts of the garden that we LOVE! and other parts that are quite bare right now and not fun to look at --- but, we know we can tackle those in the fall by moving things around and hope for a fresh start next spring. I'm not sure my ramblings help ;)... but I hope so! The fact that you love your garden enough to care about it.... that's what is most important :)

@perennial-garden Thank you SO much for your response it really does help. Saying that "if it dies, it dies," and you move on was a light bulb moment. Something so simple and true and one I think we gardeners really forget about. I adore you both. You and Crane have made my journey into my garden so much more fun, more interesting, and more knowledgeable. Sending you both so many blessings....oh, the Eucalyptus tree is amazing!! Bravo! Momma Nature is helping you both out for sure...and I would have been on the ground, flat if I lost all my Lupins. 🤭

So glad I made sense! haha. But it's true... we can plant everything again. (even lupines! bless it) Sounds like you have some motivation back! LOOK OUT flowers :) Hope you have an incredible gardening week ahead :) BIG HELLO from us in Denmark :)

I love Japanese anemones. Some people say they're invasive ... no invasion in my garden yet. I have a heavy clay soil so maybe that's why👏👏💯

They do spread... but they're so easy to dig up that it's really not a problem. And a big clump of them is so pretty I think.

Great garden guys, can i ask if it is netting or some sort of metal holding up your dahlias. Well done🎉
@perennial-garden3 ай бұрын
You can always ask us anything :) Here you can see the wire frame a little better: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWWafHmJiLKHY9Usi=ZvnqwcejVTh_7iDI&t=273 We put it on at the beginning of June... so the Dahlias can grow up and through as they get taller.

What type of soil mix do you use? Thx.
@perennial-garden3 ай бұрын
We amend our soil with compost (that we make ourselves) and fertilize with organic chicken manure once a year. Otherwise, the soil is just normal soil that is already in the garden.

Do your rudbekcias cone back every year or do you grow from seed annually?

Most of ours are perennial... altho the hirta can be tricky if our winters are super cold. So far, so good tho :)

It looks like the same eucalyptus that grows in texas and arizona. Eucalyptus pauciflora, ghost gum.

I've added that name to the list, too! Going to have to do some research now. We have 3 possibilities so far :) THANK YOU :)

I googled eucalyptus tree in garden and got mix results. What did you end up doing about it?

We got a lot of great suggestions - still not 100% sure what type it is. But we like it nonetheless ☺️

@@perennial-garden I like the look of it too. I planted under my gigantic oak tree. While it looks nice, the tree definitely rules the yard and I have to move the plants. The tree is well over 100 years old and still magnificent

Beautiful naturalistic garden. That Eucalyptus will soon do a number on you. They are thugs.

That's Gaillardia x grandiflora 'Mesa Peach' (Blanket Flower). We just grew it from seed this summer :)
@SusanWalsh-or4ut3 ай бұрын
Is that a Gillardia or a Gazania?

We only have Gaillardia (Blanket Flowers) here... a few of the traditional looking ones. And then one in peach and one in red :)
