August Reading Wrap Up 2024

Every time you mention Club Contango, it goes higher on my tbr! I read quite a few things in August, I'd say my favorite new read was Fifth Season, my favorite indie was The Humane Society for Creatures & Cryptids, and my favorite reread were books 2+3 of the OG Kushiel trilogy. Honorable mentions to Jasmine Throne and The Sun and the Void, and to A Sorceress Comes to Call for being my first T. Kingfisher, but this last one didn't quite live up to expectation

Brick & Bone let's goooo!!! One of the most effortless chunky reads out there, those characters just suck you in like no other. And I am definitely going to give Annihilation a 2nd chance, it just sounds way too good for me to not like it haha. My faves of August were Asunder by Kerstin Hall, Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle and Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors. Especially the first two are HIGH recommendations for you ;)))

I'll be curious to hear what you thought of Authority. I adored Annihilation, but Authority almost put me into a reading slump, so i ended up DNFing it a little over halfway. I would still like to finish it, but who knows when/if that will ever happen. Club Contango on the other hand sounds super interesting! For what I read in August, my favorite of the month was Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle. It was such a delightful romp and I loved all of the slasher movie throw backs and the campy fun story.

Authority was different for sure but I ended up still enjoying it quite a bit! The last 50 pages really pick up the pace IMO. It’s interesting that you didn’t like it though, my reading partner on the Southern Reach trilogy said it’s been a slog for them too!

Would I like the Legacy of Brick and Bone or Brightwash or whatever book 1 is? Your love for it makes me consider trying it lolol
