I love the way you tactfully parse the books you disliked or DNF'd.

Aw thank you, I do try to give enough context for my disliking something as I'm always aware the reasons I don't like it might be the reason someone else could enjoy it 😅

I really enjoyed the old woman and the knife as a refreshing thriller with the age of the character, as well as the story still managing to have action to it too. And it was quite a fast read! But I can understand that the audio experience may be different and losing steam at some point. I read the Theban plays sometime last year and I really enjoyed them as well, so I am glad you liked them even though you had read Antigone before! Your insights were great to hear. I really liked none of the above and found it very interesting and it helped me learn -- as in seeing so starkly the way they experienced homophobia and therefore knowing how better to tackle it and those scenarios in a way that may be comfortable to the person at the time? But also just to hear from alabanza's voice too.

The more time passes, the more I wonder if the heatwave just destroyed me too much to enjoy the ending hahaha 😂 I am weak!! Yessss totally agree with you on Alabanza's work 🤩

We’ve just done a group read of None Of The Above in work and had a brilliant experience reading and reflecting together.

I can imagine being able to discuss it with a group only enhances how great q book it is!

Dragon's promise wasn't even close to the quality of the first book. I DNFd it. It felt whiny, and younger and annoying. I was so sad.

I am also so sad!! It is nice to hear this from someone else though, a lot of the reviews from friends on goodreads were quite positive so it's nice to know it's not just me 😅

August 1. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Edited by Scot Hicks & David V. Hicks 2. Clash of Kings by George RR Martin 3. Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness 4. Lady Audley’s Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon 5. The Visitors by Sally Beauman I enjoyed The Visitors, but I also loved the two sequels Clash of Kings by George RR Martin and Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness. Lady Audley's Secret was a disappointment and Meditations provided food for thought. A few weeks ago my parents and I visited London and one of our tours included visiting Bath. I loved it, but I wish we had spend more than an hour but we also explored the Roman Baths.

Ooh what a fun range of books! I've only read Rebecca's Tale by Sally Beauman but just took a quick snoop at The Visitors and that sounds like a really interesting point of history to explore. Clash of Kings is brill! Oh how fab, I'm so glad you enjoyed Bath 😁

@@redheadreading The Visitors inspired me to watch The Mummy. I loved Rebecca's Tale by her, and it was a pleasant surprise that The Visitors was by the same author. Rebecca makes me think Scarlet O'Hara.
