Honestly what makes this song isn't really the instrumentals in particular. But the music theory behind it is fantastic. The song goes through about 6 transitions throughout the song, so you don't get bored. And while thats happening the song progressively starts getting more fast paced and aggressive as it continues. Until the end which is almost the "breaking point", where the drummer and guitarist finally break the anger with that amazing acoustic masterpiece.

@decapitatedrathead I agree that "djent" is not necessarily a genre on its own, however it is a useful way to describe a style of music. We tend to refer to ourselves as groove metal first. Our newer tracks will have more of a djent sound to them, as we have tweaked our guitar tone quite a bit.

@nuoldschool we kind of coined that word with this song when we were going for a groove-oriented, "dent-y" style of metalcore really....genres are very finicky, so instead of slipping into one we thought we'd do a hybrid :)

@decapitatedrathead Actually it's more than that and is most definitely a new emerging sub-genre. It's a big clusterfuck of palm-muted power chords, octave chords, jazz/"groove" solos, and polyrhythmic/polymetric drum beats.

0:50 how do you write those sort of displaced/ syncopated chugs? Is there a particular method? VoM do it a lot as well and they really throw you off. Hard to keep track of them.

Experiment with different patterns of 16th note chugs...a lot of VoM breakdowns are like this...you can also try alternating bars of 4/4 and 15/16
