Auratus give African Cichlids a bad name. They are highly aggressive, and need very large tanks or they kill just about everything.

To be fair, that could be a female Auratus. They take on male coloration, sometimes.

Hey mate I have a? I use to have a male auratus cichlid it was mean as he'll I also housed it with south American cichlids so I would like to know is the auratus cichlid gonna do ok in a tank with other African cichlid or how should I approach the auratus should it be housed alone just curious starting a all african cichlid tank soon

Looks like a female auratus and male Johanni. The auratus will fight any fish with similar markings regardless of color. With enough space they should establish a truce.

Nice are they both male or both female and how can you tell? i always thought its the egg ball spots on their anal fins that determines males and the ones without that are females is that correct or not r eally? Cant really see spots on their fins.
