Aurizon Coal detour during CRR Closure September 2024

During the September school holidays Cross River Rail project had many closures to connect the new lines into the network. Coal trains from the West Moreton coal fields were diverted through the city on their way to Fisherman Island port.
Train 9817 pulled by 2348D and 2200 at Graceville and later at South Brisbane can be seen in this video. Empty train 9608 pulled by 2705 and 2701 went into the city on it's way back to Toowoomba while I was waiting for 9817.

So did they run them through the hole in the wall or through Mayne yard over the flyover? The guys wouldn't have been used to having such a heavy pull up passed South Bank.

@DeanStalker thanks. I suppose the wagons are short enough to come round that way. It would've been a work out for the track having that much weight pushing on it. Not to mention holding things up waiting for the train to clear back through to South Brisbane.

@@adriannettlefold9084 It's been interesting to see operations today on the Main Line - the bi-directional signalling on the Main line in good use today, with Down trains on the Up & Down Mains during morning peak, and then this arvo all Western traffic on the Mains, and the Gold Coast traffic on the Suburbans.
