It's so cool you're doing a Meat Puppets guitar lesson. Meat Puppets II and Up On the Sun are my favorite albums as well. I have a personal history with that band. Growing up in France, I saw them on a rock TV program in 1985 (it's on KZbin), "singing" their song Maiden's Milk (the Kirkwood brothers are whistling the entire song). I was intrigued but forgot about them (I was into a bunch of other stuff at the time lol). A few years later (1992) I saw that they'd be playing in Paris; I remembered that whistling song so I bought a ticket to the show (small venue in the northern part of Paris). Long story short: I met my American wife at that show and moved to the US a year later. I'm still in the US (no longer with the wife, living a lonely life, but that's the choice I made...).

Absolutely LOVE the Meat Puppets. Curt Kirkwood is an incredible guitarist, at least to my ears that seem drawn more to unusual and interesting-sounding guitar playing than anything else, and the whole band comes together in such fascinating rhythmic, harmonic, and melodic ways. Great lesson as always, Adrian. More importantly, this lesson is yet another in the countless examples why this channel and Adrian's approach to sharing his knowledge and love of music are truly rare gems. (By the way, I'm still chuckling over the title of Adrian's fictitious click-bait KZbin video, "5 Terrible Guitar Mistakes You Didn't Even Realize You Were Making!")

In high school, because this was one of my faves on the record, this track was my alarm to wake up for school. Soon enough I ended up hating to hear it. But now, long after my school years, it has returned to its sheer and utter loveliness.

I know who the Meat Puppets are but have never actually listened to a single song of theirs. This tune is really cool, would have never heard it if it weren't for your channel. I've said it before, but it's just about impossible for you to pick a bad tune. Really appreciate this channel, thanks Adrian!!

And any more Bob Mould tracks you wish to cover!

On Meat Puppets II they tuned their instruments to F Standard. Not sure why but they recorded the album on drugs, that might explain it. In my opinion it makes the album sound unique and interesting. This song grabbed my ear when I listened to it for the first time and I became a fan of the band.

I was a Meat head back in the day and happily surprised to hear you teach this :) Besides thanks, just want to say I wouldn't call that first record hardcore punk; it was pretty idiosyncratic (ie. weird) and already you could hear his exceptional guitar talent coming through. Also it was overtly stoned sounding, which is the only "feel" element missing in your breakdown- I had the same impression from your Neil Young lesson (good for you)! Finally, RIP Spot, who did such a perfect production job on those first LPs.
