She almost couldn't sing it due to the true story behind the song. It's about the terrorist attack and killing of 69 children on an island - Utøya - in Norway 2011. Her friend died there. Incredibly sad. I think it was her love at the time.

The reason for being in a boat is that the song is about the Utöya massacre that took so many young norwegian lives, and that is also why the song leaves you hanging in an emotion that still is, and always will be unresolved. But your reaction is as heartfelt and good as always

This song is specifically about a young man who Aurora was a classmate of who was killed in that shooting.

This is such a poignant eulogy to all those young lives lost in a senseless massacre. The pain she emotes here is just heart wrenching to hear and see and overwhelms me every time. Her performance of this at Nidarosdomen doesn't carry the same weight as this intimate performance does. Although she says she is finally over it all -it is clear that she is not and that is probably what makes it such a heartbreaker. She is so brave to lay her heart bare for all to see.

This is about a friend of hers she lost in the 2011 Norway terrorist attacks. She has lost 3 people that we know of from various events. She has a lot of pain to draw on but shows everyone a way forward.

Aurora wrote the song for the bereaved families of a massacre in Norway with 80 dead, many children. The song describes their journey to heaven away from violence. Worth highlighting are the text lines "Finally I'm over" and "when will my healing come". This changes in the last line to "finaly I am...". Which means nothing other than that the bereaved keep telling others that they have coped with the loss, that it is better now. But when they are alone, they ask you "when will my healing come". That's why in the last line is "over" not sung.

This is her most powerful interpretation of this gift. Such sadness until you know the back story, then it is almost unbearable. The boat and water make it even more real.

I saw in a comment by the people who did the Mahogany session that they recorded this just outside the festival grounds, and that literally seconds after she stopped singing, there was a huge roar from the crowd as an act took the stage. So they really lucked out with the timing.

I hope the Nature Boy reaction next week will be to the 5 minute long version on KZbin: 'Aurora - Nature Boy (acapella) - Melkweg-Amsterdam-The Netherlands 2018-02-28' as that one is so much fun, we get some stand-up before the song :)

Others have mentioned this but I will expand ... Little Boy in the Grass: The back story:- 22nd July 2011: Anders Breivik detonates a car bomb in Oslo, killing 8 and injuring 209 people. He moves on to a Workers' Youth League (AUF) summer camp on the small island of Utøya where he kills 69 people including the 15 year old Aurora's 17 year old boyfriend and injures 32 others. In 2015 Aurora releases an EP which concludes with Little Boy in the Grass. "In a Facebook post in 2015, Aurora referred to the Utøya massacre in 2011 and to someone important to Aurora who passed away that day. She wrote: "Today is the day. 22nd of July. It's been 4 years since you left us. Since all of you left us. how time flies, we even find ourselves forgetting for a moment, nearly moving on.. Not because we forget you, but because we remember to live. But know that I will always remember you, and everyone that went down with you. I will think of love, and send love to those who needs it this today. I hope no one is crying alone. Rest in peace my friend. You are free now." "Little boy in the grass". Awesome reaction. You have heard this, she sang it during the Nidarosdomen concert. What a great idea about doing all of the poll songs, hopefully that will leave you feeling less pressured, being able to work into your schedule at a more leisurely rate for you. You are so awesome and kind to us, sharing the Once Aurora on the free tier, just love your passion and enthusiasm for Aurora, thanks!

It's always the right time for Aurora 🙂 don't worry about it. Like other mention you did listen to it at the Nidarosdomen concert but it was on a different vibe, just like if she's less sad (3 years later) but surely will never forget. Mass shooting is so rare in Norway that it left a deep cut in everyone heart I think, saddess song from Aurora as this one if totaly true and not coming from her vivide imagination.

You have heard it before, as it is the second song played at the Nidarosdomen concert and you said it gave you chills. This is definitely Aurora's saddest song and a timeless, fitting memorial for the victims of the Utoya massacre.

Ola ashlena, as it was written in the comments, this song is related to the terrible thing in Utoya, and with this song she tried to alleviate the suffering of people who lost their loved ones so senselessly. I really don't know what he touches, it becomes a gem, am I the only one who thinks so, or is it just the bare truth?

Watching this again knowing it’s about her loss from the terrorist attack makes me cry every time I watch it. Although I have seen all your reactions of Aurora, it just occurred to me how being a reactor and not being able to dive into a new artist you love has its disadvantages. I found her 3 years ago and watched EVERYTHNG I could. Even though you have not seen everything from her, I believe you have seen enough to react to Once Aurora as I did. I look forward to your reaction of it

Gorgeous song, but with a very sad backstory, and Aurora makes you feel the emotions of that backstory. You did hear this song in the Nidarosdomen concert, but that version is way more upbeat and much less intimate than this one. I love them both equally, but for different reasons. Kind of like "It Happened Quiet" at The Current and at Nidarosdomen.

So simple and so beautiful, so powerful and so touching. Magnificent concentration of heartbreaking sung emotions. How can the sonic and visual expression of such emotions be so gorgeous? Anyway, may this year be much happier than the topic of this song.

Seeing Aurora and Odd Martin perform this live in a rowboat is such a unique experience and the emotion she brings to this song at the end is always heartbreaking. By the way, regarding “Once Aurora”, I’ve seen a few reactors do the documentary recently (usually in multiple parts) without it being blocked on youtube. They usually stop the video to comment a few times during the reaction, which I know you usually avoid, but it does seem to work for them. You might be able to eventually post it here as well! Thanks for today’s reaction!

The "Barbie" soundtrack that you show at the end, contains a song by Billie Eilish (and Finneas) that, at present, has been nominated for five Grammy categories. Indeed, this is not just kid-stuff! At the end of this month, we can find out for sure if it is officially in the running to win an Oscar. This would be the second Oscar for them. Billie introduced many of her fans (including me) to AURORA, by several times saying that the "Runaway" video was a pivotal inspiration for her. In my opinion, way at the top of music artists is: the Beatles, Billie/Finneas and AURORA.

I love this performance. This session and Nidarosdomen one are my favorites version of the song. And i even love this version the most as it is so raw, strip down and emotional. Her voice (+Odd Martin guitar and harmonies) are so amazing ;). This song (as usual with Aurora) is not only great song or singing but you can see so much emotions on her face. In one moment she even takes air in in the way like someone takes air when cry loudly (dont know how to describe it better with my low level English ;)).. Thank you for another Aurora day and cool reaction :).
