The line "be a god in the shape of a girl" was explained by Aurora in an interview once . She said "I was at an airport, it was late, I was alone and my plane was the last one to leave. It was 2016, which was a hard year for me because it was quite busy and I was sick all the time. At the airport I felt a bit sad, out of my own body, and then I looked at this family. I saw two very tired parents, and then this little girl - she was maybe 3 years old - and she seemed to give them so much joy, even though they were very tired. And she gave me a lot of joy. She seemed to interact with almost everyone at the gate, and make everyone happy. Without even knowing it. And I loved the way happiness and love can be so… simple? Don’t underestimate the power of a child. It was just very magical to see how much it affected everyone and everything. I read this somewhere and i wrote it down. It is so very "magical" moment.

Has anyone pointed out that, in this day of surprises for Aurora, the concert itself was a complete surprise. The forest is one beloved of her childhood, but she had no clue there was going to be a forest concert. And, in The Seed, the surprise within a surprise for her was the male chorus who sang with her. So, for her, it was completely spontaneous. That was part of her infectious joy. And the audience were all family, friends and Norwegian fans, completely in on the surprise, and sharing the joy together in the lovely setting. And it really showcases how tight she and her band are with each other. They had exactly no opportunity to rehearse the concert. And, Aurora has had no formal voice training. It's just her as she is. She has had dance training. You don't see it here, of course, but she is a skilled dancer and choreographer as well. Funny you should mention "singing in a folk way". She has said that a couple of her major childhood musical influencers were Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. (Courtesy of her parents' musical tastes, but hers, as well). She does some stunning covers of those two artists, btw. And she is a very exacting artist. She will not release anything until she is satisfied with it down to the minute details. What comes off as effortless has a lot of work behind it. She knows that she consciously writes songs about what if "difficult" about being a human. But she also instills hope with the sadness and the heaviness. It is her nature, her own essence, and she transmits it in a way that blesses us all! We find ourselves echoed, what we have buried that we may not even remember brought out, wrung out, but not left empty...rather quickly filled with the hope and joy of who we think we are supposed to be, but may have forgotten along the way. No wonder she was attracted to such artists as Leonard Cohen. Kindred spirits. :) Also, with her music, she has said that although music has been her way, from a young age, to resolve express and resolve what goes on inside herself, much of what she writes about is not necessarily what she had to go through herself, but what she observes of the people around her. She is deeply contemplative and strongly observant of human nature. As for writing and singing in English, she has spoken of this many times. Not only does it make her music more accessible, but she said it makes it less emotional for her to sing. A lot of her music, if she sang it in Norwegian, would almost overwhelm her with the emotion. Interesting, eh? But there is also plenty of music she sings in Norwegian, especially now with Covid, she is sticking close to home and making some very lovely Norwegian language music...which is also her passion, naturally. Oh, I liked, after Runaway, you asking if the song was resolved. She has several songs that she ends in that way - that the mind has to "finish". Knowing her as an artist, I know it is quite purposeful. Nice to hear someone point it out. I thought it was just me.

As somebody has already pointed out, The River was written with male suicide rates in mind. I think the reason why she "gives an answer" in this song, is because it is almost an "instruction for new users". Saying "Ok, so there is this great thing called 'crying' that it seems you may not be entirely familiar with, but it can really help with releasing bottled up emotions and a lot of the saddness you're carrying might find a release through it. It works like that for me; I cry and the sadness goes away for a bit, and I don't miss being sad. Rather the opposite; crying make me smile, because it can be really, really good to cry, when you allow your tears to run free." I also love the line in the bridge; (You can cry, you can cry, you can cry) To where the ocean is bigger; become a part of the river... It feels like an invitation to those who are lost and cut off, who have sealed themselves off from the rest of us, to allow themselves to cry and rejoin the "ocean" of humanity, by way of the 'river of emotions', if they can let it 'run wild. Of course, it's not always that easy, and metal health is complicated, etc. But man, if it isn't a beautiful, beautiful song - and a loving sentiment. Ugh, love this little lady a whole ton.

I enjoyed your reactions to Aurora's HAIK concert (Part I)! In my opinion, her songs carry an existential beauty and clarity that emanates from within. For me, "Infections of a Different Kind" in particular conveys deep meaning in its lyrics, and then seems to transcend those lyrics.

The infections of a different kind might be one of the most beautiful out there. She sings so beautiful but it is the emotions that matter. Her vocalizing is out of the world.. Love your reaction. HAIK means a Hike and sounds the same. The HAIK show is a journey with an artist, in this case Aurora. The haik concert from the tv show Haik; (haik in Norwegian is to ask for a car ride)The show is about honouring musicians, and thanking them for their music. This is a surprise concert for Aurora, in the woods where she grew up and spend a lot of time, just outside Bergen. Most of the people in the concert are from Bergen /west coast of Norway and have a German “R” (hard) and most people from the rest of the country have a soft “R”. In Ariana Grandes the cover of God is a woman she and the band was given 1 hour to compose and rehearse. And it’s so Aurora. Silja Sol (sings with Aurora)is a great singer and artist.

What a lovely reaction. I loved it. Made me happy to watch the two of you.. Btw "Haik" means hitch hike. The woman interviewing Aurora, picked her up at her home, and they did different things. And this was where they ended up, with this consert. You can watch it with english subtitles. You get to know Aurora. She is GREAT! You should react to her: "The Seed" (the video) it's so unique..The video to "Runaway" it's shot in her homeplace, a little outside Bergen, as you said, in the west of Norway. She loves to be home, so she want's to go back home (in Runaway).Aurora has several songs where she sings in Norwgian. If you want to listen to something FANTASTIC, try: Aurora together with Wardruna: "Helvegen." This is sung in old norwegian, it s a live preformace. You will never regret it, it's so great. Thank you for an intelligent and sensitive comment on a song and a singer that will stay at least with me for a long time. It is really a crescendo towards the last, almost whispered, phrases about the breath. You offer us one interpretation, but do you see how this song really gives strength to the spectators? And the remaining question is: What is the purpose of mankind? Maybe she means we are the quintessence of it all ---- the breath. Everyone hearing these words for the forst time gets silent, and the multitude of explanations/ interpretations is the reason. And on another note: This song has many similarities to the Gotland shore line, which you seem to have lived in a way far beyond tourism. :-) Hoppas du känner dig välkommen tillbaka till Sverige. /Göran

Just a heads up to you - you have a bug on your right voice-over channel - when you talk the little bug us sending morse-code over the channel. It does not affect the quality of the music track. You may want to check up on that (it could be on both channels but I do not think my left ear pitch sensitivity is that reduced (yet) You dudes have good chemistry and interesting talking points as it is always a treat to listen to someone with qualified thoughts on the experience. I'd gladly watch you two sit through her Nidarosdomen consert. But first, part two.

My favorite Aurora song: "A Different Kind of Human". If I may compare Aurora to the prolific "Beatles", this is her "A Day in the Life" - the most stunning song of that era. Almost equally awe-inspiring: The Seed. Queendom. Warrior. Aurora is a Mozart.

Sande is a common Norwegian surname, also several places in Norway is called Sande ☺️ 🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴
@DayleSong Жыл бұрын
Yes, yes! That's what makes me believe it to be true. "Vander Sande" literally means "from Sande"! Yet I don't have a paper trail for it yet. There are Vander Sandes recorded in books from Holland from the early 16th Century, so I believe the migration has to go back a century or so before that. Even Ancestry . com doesn't show me Norway in my family history after taking the DNA test. The Vikings never stayed in one place, anyway! :) Peter and I JUST launched our reaction to Aurora's Nidarosdomen concert -- Part One yesterday on Peter's channel (@Doctor.Disney) and Part Two this morning on mine. I would like to recommend another Norwegian singer called Angelina Jordan. She won Norway’s Got Talent when she was 8 years old singing jazz classics. She’s 14 now, and has just got a record deal and released her first original record under contract. It’s called a Million Miles and it’s about her grandfather who died, but she has dedicated it to everyone who has lost somebody. Angelina has huge back catalogue of covers on KZbin plus a few originals.

It just came to mind about runaway, seeing that Aurora is Norwegian er have a saying in Norway "nissen blir med på lasset". Translated It means that the goblin or gnome comes along in your load. Meaning that if you have problems it doesn't help running from them, they will always stick with you, they will always hunt you. Si og you truly want to runaway and live free, you have to go home and fix your problems first. In that sence running away is a negatively loaded consept and would never bring on any happiness. In the lyrics it almost seem that she 7s thinking of this, in the song she s been funn i for so long and nothing she fonds seems to be the answer maybe she has been running away from something? And she is tired of running since the running don't resolves what she is running, from maybe if she was running of the WORLD someday, she would be free of it. Heavensure is waiting impaciently on her,. But she is tired of running so she just wants to be taken home again, and maybe she is ready fix what she is steadfastly running from. So she will find peace

... not so many cows in northern Norway 😂... kulokk is to gather the cows/ animals in the mountains. It’s common everywhere on the planet . But Aurora is influenced by Norwegian folk music. ( ... and Elsa is made up by Disney... americans🙄) Aurora is a treasure ❤️, and music right thru. By the way.. Aurora lives in the woods by the sea( south of Bergen) and she needs to be there, her own words. Happy Christmas/ God jul! From Bergen Norway 🇳🇴

Hi heidifarstadkvalheim4952! I know I must have the nuances of Norwegian cows slightly off! LOL! I love that sound, though! And yes, Elsa--like most all of Disney's portrayals of other cultures--is an American invention. At least these things bring us to exchange thoughts and look a bit more into your rich Norwegian culture! I love that Aurora must live in nature. I would, too, if my career didn't require me to be in New York City! But I get out when I can! Dayle mentioned that aurora's voice will likely change in time! Any thoughts as to whether this explains her new sound in "The Gods" album in her lesser use of the fullness of her vocal range as in previous albums? Or would this be typical of her produced as opposed to her live singing?
@DayleSong Жыл бұрын
Hi Claudine, I meant that she is still young and in time a voice matures. It depends on the "weight" of the voice as to when that maturity occurs. I expect hers will reach that quality in her mid-30s or so. As for studio vs live, the variable there is the recording equipment. Production can enhance or bolster a voice's sound so much. I love that she does not really change her sound much, but there is a nature to each kind of production that makes it sound different. You mentioned the singing form of sheparding or «kulning». There is a beautiful young Norwegian folkmusician and artists - Ingebjørg Bratland- that can do this type of singing called «kveding» in Norway. She is a singer/songwriter and she only sings in Norwegian. She has translated and covered «From a distance» («På avstand») best known by Bette Midler kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIqZkp97o8mEadU She also have a beautiful vertion of «Make you feel my love» by Bob Dylan («Fordi eg elskar deg») kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3KYnH5pe9OHnq8 She has a crystal clear and beautiful voice I am shore you will like.
