AURORA - MURDER SONG (5,4,3,2,1) - The 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert | REACTION & REVIEW
Back with a new music reaction and a new artist 'Aurora'. I went into this completely blind and WOW! was I unprepared! This girl should come with a government health warning with her stunning vocals and simply unique visual performance. This LIVE performance with simply perfectly accurate harmonising and ridiculous amount of emotion and presence. Once Again im reduced to tears literally! I need to react to more of her stuff as soon as possible! Breathtaking..

Not according to Wiki. What interview does she say that in? Plz give me a reference or a link. Only thing I've read is that she's said it's a sad sad love song, and it was written after she'd read the novel Murder song by Jon Cleary.

Hmm ok I appear to be a little late to this party :) but I would just like to suggest that this is not a song and Aurora isn't a singer. Aurora is a shaman and this 'song' is a form of medicine, I have heard this song now many times and it continues to impact on me. First she grabs you and then forces you through some sort of magic to sit willingly transfixed why she tells you things you need to know with real feeling, and she does this in an incredibly beautiful way. If there is still anyone here I would like to know if this resonates with you at all.

Aurora has the ability to bring middle-aged crusty old men to tears like myself. I think it has to do with our generation's experiences, some of them lost and some of them remembered. Her folky-modern tech seems to have a timeless beauty that brings together the music our parents liked, the music we liked, and now the music our children like in a magical storytelling gift. She is an amazing artist!!!

The story behind the murder song. Aurora wrote this song after reading about a "murder" in the newspaper near her homeland. A man killed his wife/girlfriend out of love. She was seriously ill and suffered more every day. He released her from suffering. The song is sung from the perspective of the woman's ghost. Maybe he killed her with her consent (I hope so) or he made the decision on his own. You will only find this explanation of this song in one interview with her (unfortunately I don't have a link to the interview and I can't find it anymore). It's not written anywhere else. And usually she doesn't explain her songs that specifically either, because she wants everyone to find their own story in them. She usually only says to the song it is a true tragic love story that doesn't end well. It should be said that this News was an inspiration for this song. That doesn't have to mean that the song itself is about it. But since it all fits together, I think so. Of course, it is written in such a way that many interpretations are possible. Just like Aurora actually always does. To the countdown. Some people say the "killer" is counting down. On the contrary, the song is sung by the victim all the time. For me that means that she counts down herself and than her boyfriend pulls the trigger. And she knows that he knows that he kills her for mercy. That means they both know. Sounds like an agreement.
@jailaye6929

Thank you Coyote for this heartfelt & soulful interpretation. I new it had to be something on this order. And what a curious and imaginative youth she was and is still today. Aurora can work out her feelings, taking that which is sad and unjust, and make it into a song. I see that she wrote this when she was 17. . . {-.-}

What I like about this song is how it changes so much depending on our interpretation of the backstory. If we imagine this as a story about someone committing a mercy killing (that both parties have agreed on), it's a heartbreaking story about what we can do out of love for another person. If, like some reactors have thought, it's a story about a murder victim counting down, it's a disturbing story about a murder and delusion.

Oh Boy, you've just placed yourself in one of the Biggest Rabbit Holes I know... I'm a 50 year old 80's Classic Rock Metal Head, and I came across Aurora almost a year ago now...... I'm am completely at her mercy..... I am spellbound/enthralled/enchanted....... Welcome... I've never been touched like this by any other artist....and it's completely beyond my understanding or ability to put it into words... It is what it is...... Keep reacting to her live stuff...... She has a very strange way of taking "ONE" of her songs and playing it 3 to 5 different ways for each live performance and making ONE song be like 5 different songs, each one as enchanting as the other.....yet kind of different....... If you really wanna watch and hear her to where you will not be able to hold back those tears Live at Nidarosdomen the two songs "It Happened Quiet" and "Through the Eyes of a Child".... These two break me down every time....the whole concert is worth reacting to.....

Aye, her voice is incredible, I discovered her from a live performance with Wardruna (norwegian band that does the music for Vikings series) and she instantly blew my mind with her voice. On a side note, while watching her videos I stumbled upon Kalandra, another band that does some really good music and the singer's voice is somewhat similar to Aurora. I definitely recommend listening to Borders, the video in combination with the music is just pure art for me.

The Beatles tattoo on one arm, the cross/ emblem from Judas Priest sad wings of Destiny on other..... Floyd, Sabbath ( Dio years), Maiden, Rush, Neil Young.......like others, but give me these Catalogs and I wouldn't need anything else.......until I found Aurora......... Best Artist in last 30 years???? I can't describe her to others....I say something like...imagine Bowie as a girl....and he wants to make a double Queen album, but in the style of Yes meets Dylan..... What style of music do YOU consider her????? I seen Waters in a few different Cities when he did the Wall( second tour)...as I wanted to see it....inside, outside etc.... use to go to Vegas every time Priest played there. Want to see her soooooo bad. NYC this fall is only chance I have. LA date won't work for family reason. Her lyrics are absolutely amazing. Her Stage presence is beyond approach.....Freddy or Morrison are only others that are close.....and she's not running around etc. Doesn't use her body or sex appeal ( which I find her absolutely beautiful) as a gimmick. From her supporting BLM ( Amnesty International concert) The environment ( Greenpeace concert) LGBT community ( cure for me song).......and saying for example when asked if she lost fans/ supporters for writing BLM on her hands during Amnesty concert....if I lose racists fans, so what. I don't want racist people as fans anyways. Who would? Asked about doing things....bigger concerts etc that would make her more money.....if I start doing this for money, I no longer deserve to do this. It's not about money. It's about doing something that I love.

She is called the queen of emotions. So be prepared. I'm 59 years old and have never been so fascinated by any artist before. The whole girl is pure art. You approach the rabbit hole, and there will be a wonderful journey. She has some great videos, that she often directed herself, that are art in themselves. But her live performances (like this) is, for me, more captivating, because you wil be trapped by her spells (or what is it). It is not only her songs (she started writing songs in english in the age of 9), but her whole personallity. There is a lot of strange theories in the commuity, what she is, where she is from (alien, fairy, elf ..), but I find it hard to understand this girl, the deeper I go in her lyrics. My rational thoughts do not suffice.

That many people discover Aurora via Angelina is not so strange. When Angelina does her AGT show, the was a explosion of people that was making reaction videos of her. After that, people start making reaction videos of Aurora, because of Aurora fans that used Angelina as a door opener. When I discovered Aurora for some years ago, there was a few reaction videos of Aurora every week. Now is it 3-6 every day. The lucky part to live in Norway, is that it is easy to see Aurora live. I have been on 6 concerts with her, last time on a closed concert with only 8-10 other people in addition to all the crew. I remember being astounded by the sheer courage of this performance when I first heard it. I was a songwriter and performer in my younger days and I look at the enormous scale of that arena and just know I could never have performed a song like this in that venue. It may be a fictional story, but it still feels so raw, intimate and almost invasive, listening to it. Like we're eavesdropping on someone in their most vulnerable moment. But at 19 years old, she stood in front of thousands of people, most of whom probably weren't that aware of her work, and absolutely poured out her soul for everyone to see. No shame. Nowhere to hide. Pure beauty. She truly is a remarkable and deeply impressive young human being.

Her commitment to every song is total. She’s never “putting on a show”. She’s not “acting”. She lets the song take her over and speak through her. In live performances you’ll often see her return to her body from somewhere else at the end of a song, like someone waking up from a dream into unfamiliar surroundings. All of that is very evident in this performance, but you’ll find many others like it. The effect is riveting.

this performance gets better the more it's watched. the simplicity of the guitar and her voice is perfect. if it does not get to you, you don't have a heart. it ok to feel it, you are meant to feel it.

Love your reaction to Aurora. If you really like to "know" her better, you should check out the documentary on her called HAIK. This leads up to an outdoors concert in the woods, the only thing she knew what was planned for her that day, the rest was all a suprise for her. Norways public broadcast television (NRK) made this in 2019.

Her concert live in Nidarostomen is one of the most beautiful experiences you will ever have. I know you don't react to entire concerts (although several reactors have actually reacted to the concert), but you must cover all the songs from this concert. It is breathtaking. I have seen it many times and I can't get enough. She is so talented .

You tearing up made me tear up. It's funny that you said you're glad you don't wear makeup or else it'll smudge haha. This was exactly my same reaction when I first found Aurora, I cried and sobbed through every song of hers and all her interviews. It was like finding a kindred spirit. That's probably why many people like her as well, they see themselves in her if they were able to be as free as her.

If you want to listen to a real a cappella performance try: "Aurora - Through The Eyes Of A Child (Live) - Stripped (Vevo UK LIFT)" Other suggestions: -Lucky live at Nidarosdomen -It Happend Quiet live at Nidarosdomen ( I think it's more powerful than the version "at The Current") To be fair, anything from the Nidarosdomen concert is great. Full concert reaction? ;) Either way, she just touches your heart.

@@Zipcom69 I won't fight over it since it's purely subjective ;) but I think the stripped down version lacks emotion and power compared to Nidarosdomen. "At the Current" is more like an "album version" with more perfect singing and recording.

Aurora is a beautiful little forest fairy who was sent by Mother Earth to speak to our hearts through the only language that is universal and eternal; connected to the heart and soul. She even says that in an interview, if I remember correctly. Well, not all of it. She didn't say anything about being a forest fairy lol But there is something very special and magical about her.

Yep... You basically reacted the same way I did when I first heard her. There were many pauses of the song just so I could process the seconds of gold that blessed my ears. This song particularly hit my emotions. It's truly a masterpiece. She has many masterpieces and just keeps making incredible music and telling stories in a spectacular way. I'm emotionally attached to her music, it's unbelievable.

If you ask me, she's been sent from somewhere. And whether she's aware of it or not, she's on a mission. The hours listening to her songs were, are and will continue to be more educating than the lifetime I spent so far. There are no words to thank her for the gift she's making to us all. Wonderful reaction, keep up that authenticity. Greetings from Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany

You will be moved even more by the song, Through The Eye's Of A Child. Aurora Asknes is from Norway like Angelina Jordan, I'm not sure what is in the water there but there are phenomenal singer's coming from there. Aurora has said that the reason she has so much movement when singing is because she feels so many more emotions are trying to come out of her and that's how they express themselves. All of Aurora's live performances are worth watching. She will move you in ways that you have seldom felt . Great reaction ❤️

This young woman is a total empath. She is so many things - but always this bigger than life empath. To the point that her lyrics can be hard to grasp since she can be you, herself, mother earth, the wind, a seed as the first person inside her lyrics. She wrote "Lucky" at age 9. I would suggest her live version from the Nidarosdomen concert as first listen - where she rearranged it for string orchestra, male choir and church organ. This girl has some absolute galactic level understanding of harmonic tension and releases thereof. (You will find the same in her "Through the Eyes of a Child" at the same concert - though I like the even more stripped version live at Vevo even more in almost pure acapella form). She has one of the finest vocal chemistries on the planet right now with her keyboardist and second-voice singer Silja Sol. There is a suite of live-session recordings of them two simply standing on the shoulders of Simon&Garfunkle while circling and inverting passages on each other. There are also a huge amount of recordings when she unplugs her entire band. But I enjoy her going peak energy too - such as the two KEXP live sessions or some of her festival concerts around the world that are recorded with at least semi-professional sound. For you as a reactor - the NRK (Norwegian TV) concerts (such as the one above) are reasonably safe for copy-strikes (with a minimum of awareness). This includes her version of Life on Mars (Bowie), the legendary HAIK concert in the forest outside her childhood home and the even more legendary Nidarosdomen concert. (You are British I think - if so you know "I am walking on the air" from the Snowman - she does an astonishing version of it in that set as a little Christmas bonus). Do not get tricked into making an opinion based on studio material (she goes for a rather heavy alternative electronica pop mix, that I find can hide her songs - or they risk making her sound generic. There are just a few of her songs I really love straight out of the studio, and even there I usually have a live version I love more. A reason for this is that Aurora's pure presence becomes a bit muted in the studio recordings - it is when singing live she comes alive - comforting, scary, crying, soft, loving, angry with the emotional weight that her lyrics and songs deserve. And it is here she shows off the same magic Edit Piaf is said to have. The amount of emotional weight this girl can hold on that tiny body is just extraordinary. Especially since she NEVER ends up in the emo-trap in her music. Since I am ranting I want to mention another thing. The number of us that start a sentence about Aurora the following way "I am half a century old and normally I listen to (insert prog, rock, jazz, art-house electronica, classical)" is enormous. Especially from the classic rock school. There are some roots in her songwriting and voice that hits us. Partly, Aurora has some of that Joni Michell power in her. Similar to what one finds in Kate Bush and Annie Lennox a decade later. Even if I may have not loved the genre Eurytmics was placed in 4 decades ago - I sure as hell knew they were more than yet another pop-duo act of their time. Aurora in her way of writing music - the skeleton of her music is arranged with deep traditional roots that also Scandinavian metal use. You will hear it in her "Through the eyes of a child" stripped where the song reveals itself as almost Gregorian Chant influenced in structure. The entire Nidarosdomen is demonstrating these deep musical roots. Let me illustrate this with a rare occasion when Aurora joins in to sing second-voice with people she knows - the people in the band Wardruna who plays "medieval folk-music reconstructed". I give you Helvegen. (In addition to the awesomeness, also try picking up on the structures and arrangements of Wardruna - and note how themes from it have been popping up in Auroras song-writing since she was 9 years old). There is something ancient in how she writes songs - on top of her vocal techniques that are well-known in Scandinavian folk music with roots also going back to around 200 AD (linguistically called "Age of Syncope") (Scandinavian singing was affected by changes in how we used vowels and accents while separating from the proto-germanic language. Fun fact - it is the same reason the Swedish Chef in the Muppets has a yodelling approach to communication 😀). kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ_Ohah-hZ6kadE&ab_channel=wardrunawardrunaOffisiellartistkanal

one of the reasons Aurora is such an amazing artist, is that she goes into the emotions of the song in her head as she sings, as if she is going through it personally there and then, and that is heard and felt in her voice and expressions. she doesn't really have much control of what her hands do as she sings, they just express what she feels and is trying to tell. you often can see her "wake up" from the song as she ends her performance, looking a bit dazed or confused for a few seconds, before she snaps out of it, she's completely into the song's emotions and story as she sings it. if you want another extremely haunting and emotional song of hers, try the pure acapella version of "Through the Eyes of a Child" stripped VEVO. it will blow your mind and hit you in the feels :)

Queendom is just jealous pretentiousness about how it would be a wonderful world if women ruled instead of men. Except when that happens you still get people like Kamala or Hillary, or Theodora who has been seen as a feminist idol but she tortured countless people and completely disregarded the laws of her country to be able to continue doing so lol.

Don’t feel bad cause she made me tear up literally the first couple of times I watched her ( on KZbin I’m not stalking her or anything LOL!)! I love watching these reactions to her from people who’ve never heard her and/or seen her because more often than not THEY also get at least a tiny bit emotional! I’ve seen people from all walks of life & different types of musicians from different genres reacting!! What I love about yours is you’ve truly listened to the lyrics & seem to understand what she’s trying to convey (there’s been others who have loved her voice & movements but seem to have misunderstood the lyrics, OR have kinda looked down on the meaning partially because they misunderstood a piece of it! 😊😮
