Songs have different meaning to different people..... I had to let my 18 year old cat go last summer, and it still hurts...... Aurora said about the song: "It's a tragic love story. Very tragic. The saddest thing is that he really loves her." Rumors has it that she read about a man that killed the woman he loved to save her from pain (termanally sick). The twist that Aurora does is that she sings it from the woman's" side", and that makes it extra pain full. You really went from the lightest to the darkest song i must say.... Hope you will continue your journey, you will be surprised.....

@@baskoning9896 she is therapeutic to the soul, she might make you cry, but you will feel better later... I heard she wrote this tragic love story to point out the mental health issue in our society.. He was apparently so scarred by his past and what he had been through, he wanted to spare the woman he loved from experience the same, if he had gotten help sooner, it might not have had this tragic outlook. a murder is not always coldblooded, it might just be the tragic outcome of somone not getting the help he clearly needed, and the outcome was horrible, much like life for many people who suffers from mental health problems, and are not getting the help they need.

I agree, it depends on the current state of mind and the experiences someone had. For me the song is an allegoric story about a breakup, not a simple breakup though. Something like a forced breakup, maybe because the relationship was inappropriate (age gap, married, drug user). There is a lot of love but the guy has to end the relationship even if both of them don't want it (holding an allegorical gun to her end) so he can spare her pain in the future (because it has no future)

In my opinion, it was to set light on domestic abuse and mental health. This is the consequense of mental health issues for the people struggling, and does not get any help.Aurora uses her music as therapy and often writes about the things that scares her, or makes her unsettled, or that makes her mad. She said this song was a tragic lovesong.
@jasekjaan3 жыл бұрын
I don't really think is about real sparing someone from illness. It's called Murder song for a reason. Many sick sociopaths kill with in idea of cleansing world from wrongs ang bads that are just a construct of their deviated minds. She even sings "I know he knows he's killing me for mercy" and not "I know he's killing me for mercy..". She literally says he's doing it becaus HE knows she will suffer in the future, to save her "from the awfull things in life that comes...". It can be anything from broken heart to being fired from work to domestic abuse or actually maybe getting sick. But it was his decision and his action and very possibly his broken view of the world...

@@jasekjaan Well Mercy killing is a murder is any country by law. And in some countries euthanasia can be done by doctors, but if you would just kill your loved one for mercy because they are terminally ill and ask to die, it would be called murder. If I have learned anything from following this absolutly beautiful creature, is that Aurora can talk/sing about the most serious matters but never in a way that makes it depressing or unbearable. She has stressed time and time again, that sorrow and tears are an intrinsic part of living and by open ourself to those feelings, we can come thru almost anything and grow as a human instead of being consumed by the hardship that life throws our way. Aurora herself has experienced her share of tragedy and loss. She lost two close friends in the terror attack at Utøya in 2011. Then, just three years later, her best friend died in an automobile accident. She was just 17 or 18. Her own sister has suffered from very dangerous depression for many years So when Aurora talk or sings about this things, shes not some pretensious teen that thinks its "cool" to be dark. And yet, when you see Aurora on stage or in interviews, her joie de vivre is just infectous. And, belive me or not, she has fantastic humor. Her in between comments on stage will make you cry with laughter. So yes, Aurora is as complex as she seems.

I had to put down my first dog from childhood because he kept growing tumors and was just in pain all the time. He was very old at least, like your dog). When I listen to Aurora I feel a catharsis and feel better after. She is so empathetic and caring on top of it, which you can get from interviews and just how she is in general. Having to put down your dog is no less than a human in my opinion. I sometimes like animals (especially dogs) more than people anyway.

I know how hard that is, and that's what inspired the song. As mentioned in comments over the last couple of years (just found your channel myself), the song was inspired by Aurora hearing a man helping his terminally ill and suffering wife to let go. It so struck her she had to write the song (so the story goes.)

This song is so disturbing, and then Aurora delivers it with this raw emotion on top of it.... At first you don't believe what you are hearing. This can't be what she just sang, was my first thought after hearing the first verse. Slowly I come to grips with it. The controversial subject of euthanasia, put into this blunt text. It really gets you thinking about it at a much deeper level. Still it sends shivers down your spine. As you I have had to have our dog put down. There was no chance of recovering from cancer. On one side it was so horrible, but our deep love for our dog helped us to cope with this awful situation. I feel you man. Respect to your pain.

I'm not sure how true it is but, I saw a comment on another person's reaction to this song that said this was a true story that Aurora remembered from a village in Norway where She lived about a Woman who had a horrible illness that was going to cause years of painful suffering before it would eventually kill Her. She begged Her Love to spare her from all the suffering and this is what the song is about. A Very Dark Subject, for sure, but also a tale of a love so deep that He would be willing to do that so His Love would know peace. Even knowing that He would be branded as a Murderer for doing it. You felt the emotion in Her voice... That, combined with the memory you mentioned was enough to bring tears. this is one example of Aurora's ability to convey emotion through Her songs! This was posted on another channel about this song. It was posted by Coyote. The story behind the murder song. Aurora wrote this song after reading about a "murder" in the newspaper near her homeland. A man killed his wife/girlfriend out of love. She was seriously ill and suffered more every day. He released her from suffering. The song is sung from the perspective of the woman's ghost. Maybe he killed her with her consent (I hope so) or he made the decision on his own. You will only find this explanation of this song in one interview with her (unfortunately I don't have a link to the interview and I can't find it anymore). It's not written anywhere else. And usually she doesn't explain her songs that specifically either, because she wants everyone to find their own story in them. She usually only says to the song it is a true tragic love story that doesn't end well. It should be said that this News was an inspiration for this song. That doesn't have to mean that the song itself is about it. But since it all fits together, I think so. Of course, it is written in such a way that many interpretations are possible. Just like Aurora actually always does. To the countdown. Some people say the "killer" is counting down. On the contrary, the song is sung by the victim all the time. For me that means that she counts down herself and then her boyfriend pulls the trigger. And she knows that he knows that he kills her for mercy. That means they both know. Sounds like an agreement.

Aurora is a mind blower, a mind bender, a healer, she touches you deep inside, makes you think, makes you wonder, makes you feel, wakes you up and takes you on a trip...that my friend is what she does with her Love and Magic. She is a unique spirit in the shape of this beautiful young lady.....and we love her music since her beginnings but please understand she is still delighting us and there's a lot of her beautiful production out there since 2015, until a couple days ago....... when she released her Earth Day Eve's last version of The Seed. And here is THE love song kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYqnnKWAls52qNk Exist for Love there you are Sweeny, and welcome to the Queendom!

Yep. Had the same reaction you did. I weep like a baby every time I hear it. I knew about the context of the song prior to hearing it but definitely can see how it would manifest feelings of having to end a life, a pet in your case. I also have been in that position and it’s never easy and certainly heartbreaking. I can tell you’re an empathic and well meaning person, which is why your reaction was the way it was, and I’m glad for it. We need more empathetic people in this world more than ever. The vocal technique that Aurora has is beyond amazing, the control she has over her voice. She blows my mind every time I hear her. She does some covers of Ariana Grande, Massive Attack, and Imagine Dragons that is pretty amazing too.

Aurora has that effect on people! Through the Eyes of Child at Nidarosdomen is awesome (that entire concert is pretty amazing) and It Happened Quiet is also great (At the Current). For something a bit more upbeat, I'd suggest Running with the Wolves Pandora Sessions has a nice acoustic version), Conqueror (Tonight Show), and Queendom (live at KEXP). So much energy in Conqueror and Queendom. If you feel like you need something sad, watch her live tribute to Leonard Cohen in Chicago (So Long Marianne) shortly after she found out he died (recording not too bad considering it was taken on a cell phone). The thing with Aurora is that every live performance is different and she gives it everything she has. She is so amazing to watch.

This song always always hits me from the first few lines. It's so powerful that it can reach into me and summon out a deep emotion that I've forgotten or tried to suppress. I've been moving on from a dear friend's death recently and always heard her say how soon she'll be gone as she was already very old. I cried throughout the entire song. I will always thank Aurora's music for making me feel like it's okay to feel what I feel sometimes and that I don't always have to keep a straight face when facing life. It takes a lot of courage for you to share to us about your lovely dog. Thanks for doing this review. I'll be looking forward to the next ones!

I connected with you on the dog thing. When I was in third grade my first dog got really sick and we have to bring them to the vet. Being an only child and having trouble making friends at that time, that dog with everything to me. The the day he was brought to the vet nothing like just couldn't function and in the middle of class is broke down in tears. I'm crying writing this right now. The loss of a pet is a very difficult thing to deal with.

When listening to music, it becomes personal. You out your meaning into this Song, just as I will out another meaning in the song. We are all unique individuals with our unique experiances that forms out individual history. And our histories shapes the music we listen to, puts å meaning in the lyrics, the use of techniques and tones used, the instruments.... all of it år interpreted by us as unique individuals. For me, this Song holds 3 meanings, all if them formed out of my history. It all depends on my mood while listening to it, which meaning I put om it. Simplified it goes like this: 1: I have in my passed experianced a traumaticaly abusive realationship that I couldn't escape. So the song is about an abusive reajationship, where the abuser comes to clarity and understands the pain he had influcted, and that no matter what happens, she will be marked by this for the rest of her life. He feels himself a monster knowing he will not being able to stop abusing her, and not being Ble to let her go. He loves her deeply, and in that moment og clarity he kills her, to spear her the pain, both physically and mentaly. She loves him and understands what is happening, and accepts it, finally feeling free. It is a dark, twisted lovesong. Raw and emotional. 2. I have suffered with depresion and was suicidale when hunger, not eanting to die, not wanting to live. In this version, it is still a lovesong, where the lover accepts that she can't live like this, and loving her dearly, taking the choice for her by killing her. I know, this is Even more twisted. But it makes sence for me. 3. As a nurse I have seen a lot of pain and dying, people living with umbearable pain, with no hope. So this version is also a relationship, a lovesong, where one if the is sick like that, with a horrible disease, where he/she will lose themself completely the this disease, losing all function etc. He kills his lover for mercy knowing he gave to live with double pain after that, losing his lover and knowing he did it, to spear her/him. euthanasia, like we do with animals. It is devastating watching humans suffer like that, too. Not only our animal friends. I know, dark and twisted. But it is a great song.

I watch a ton of Aurora reactions, especially to this song because it’s my favorite of hers. I saw a comment somewhere that said she had heard a story about a man who had done this to his girlfriend, although I don’t know the details. As you listen to more Aurora songs, you’ll see that she explores death quite a bit. In an interview with Eurovision, she said she does this mostly because of curiosity, and finds that as humans, aware of our mortality, we can still live our lives without always thinking about it. She’s a fascinating creature.

Sweeny, your reaction to this song is very, very natural. AURORA is very beautiful, special, and strange. I deeply appreciate her for fearlessly exploring human emotions with her songs, and this one is, I believe, the most sad song she's ever written. We all have a painful experience of our past, and she understands that. You can hear it in her voice, how passionately and beautifully she sings about something so dark and disturbing as death and separation. I'm so sorry to you for having to put your dog down, I've never owned a pet so I can't place myself in your shoes, but I have been the victim of emotional abuse for much of my developing life. To me, this song signifies the emotional death of self which I experienced at the verbal abuse of my father throughout my childhood, and the emotional loss of self I endured at the narcissistic manipulation of a man who I experienced my very first pseudo-relationship with online. One should never have to experience constant degrading by one's own parent, but for their identity to be so filled with self-doubt and confusion as they enter into their first relationship is even more cruel. One should feel safe, protected, cherished, trusted, and exclusive in a relationship, and this guy didn't even do that for me. Each and every relationship I've ever tried to enter has either been stolen from me, or not reciprocated, and the people I have called "friends" throughout my lifetime have ghosted me, been reluctant to hang out, and seldom initiated contact, if ever. For me, "Murder Song" is my death of self to the powers of loneliness, confusion, isolation, self-doubt, self-hate, and self-loathing. AURORA has been a powerful tool in my recent past, helping me to face my emotions and heal. You are never alone, and even if only by the digital words of an internet stranger, I do deeply empathize with your tears.

Can you imagine the soldiers for war coming across a little girl and knowing that if he turns her in she could be physically pillaged so he kills her to save her from the torture of being a prisoner of war. Who knows really except aurora herself. But this is what I imagine as she sings this song and I always bawl my eyes out too! No judgments here.
