I’ll mention a really unforgivable flaw with these Aurora Talentum Black Ops pens. Had you used this pen for a bit longer you’ll have noticed that the matte black plating on all metal fittings, especially the clip and center band, flakes off, leaving a shiny black plating. That has happened on both my fountain pen and my rollerball. This wearing off of the matte black finish has also happened with Aurora Black Ops pens owned by other collectors. All this from carrying these pens in sleeves or just normal use (not abuse). This is a really bad flaw and Aurora must own up to it, which they’ve never done! Look closely at the fittings on your pen and you’ll see, or soon will notice, what I mean. BTW, good review for an expensive flawed pen.

@Downhome Geek If you're a fan of this finish, consider the Sailor Imperial Black. It's absolutely beautiful, and I have used mine regularly for years with no defect. The only reports I have personally heard of the finish coming off is when nib adjustment is involved. Plus you can get a matching multi pen for a little more!

Glad to see you finally got one! I agree about the price of a converter. I really don't care what name is on it, it is over priced! I enjoy my fine nib but really wish I had gotten a medium or broad.

I have a medium Talentum and it has a little pleasant feedback thou it's very smooth. It's nib never fails. I 've used it sometimes, with Waterman Black Blue ink, and it's a pleasure. I've just bought the Aurora black that is amazing. In 2024 this is still the sole brand making all the parts and manufacturing in its firm in Italy.

@Dan Levene..I couldn’t agree more. I adore Aurora. I currently have 26 Aurora pens, including this very same stealth black Talentum. Also, eight 88s (including a pair of the vintage ones), four of the new Duo Carts and a dozen more pens of the other models, including the Optima, Ipsilon, Style, Tu, Alpha, Internazionale, the vintage Duo Cart, the 98, etc… I love this Talentum immensely. The next best thing to the Aurora 88, in terms of design, size, feel and comfort in hand and the sublime writing performance. Worth every dollar I spent on it.

As with my Pilot cartridges, one can rinse them out and refill them with a favourite ink a few times. Saving the planet :) Nice pen thanks for the review. Cheers

I always rinse cartridges, because they generally hold more ink than a converter

Although the cartridges and converters are proprietary, you can also use Parker's, which are easier to find and less expensive.

How do you like the pen compared to a Pelikan M800/805 that is is a similar price range?

I've been toying with the idea of getting an Aurora for some time now. I think they make beautiful pens and they're a nice option for a lovely Italian if you don't want a Visconti Palladium nib, especially with the demise of Omas. It is surprising that the convertor is proprietary, given it is a European brand. The only other European proprietary I can think of is Lamy. Most tend to be Japanese.

Don't forget it also has an ebonite feed. I would say that $26 for a converter is obscene, and I don't believe any other company charges close to that amount, with Visconti costing $14, and that's bad enough.

They need to justify why piston filling pens cost 180euro more. Oh no thats a deluxe filling mechanism. An inbuilt converter nothing more, just harder to clean and more expensive to maintain.
