The thing worth noticing is how often Aurora pops into a radio station studio and just kills it. The sound quality there was 100% professional, ready for the press. I've seen lots of people do that radio station thing, and it's rare to produce that kind of quality in that unfamiliar space.
@mnewm213 жыл бұрын
the like a version is a long running show in Australian radio so they have it all pretty well nailed as far as production goes it just comes down to the performers then and some are amazing and some are not so but they are always interesting as often their spin is quite different to the original! Lots of Like a Version performances on youtube.

Animal Soul there is also so, so good, one of my favorites, but her own song of course. May I suggest one other favorite of mine, which no one is reacting to, because it is blocked in Norway? Definitely check the original as well guys. It was sung by Elisabeth Fraser, another vocal legend you may wish to explore. She was known for Cocteau twins and This Mortal Coil, where she shone with another legend, Lisa Gerrard who is best known from Dead Can Dance (with yet another vocal master: Brendan Pery). Gotta check them all out. Truly wonderful genre!

@@DavidSmith-pg1ob Ah, well, 'genres' ... lol. Most of those bands evolved in the course of their history. I mean, try to name 'the' genre that typifies two of my favourite acts, The Gathering and Dead Can Dance. Maybe go for 'Floyd Metal' and 'Spiritual Progressive Folk' respectively? Or 'Trip Rock' and 'Neoclassical Dark Wave'. All fitting for at least part of their respective discographies, but not quite for another part. Genres are mainly used to try to explain to people who are not familiar with a bands music on what to expect. Issue with said bands and 'genres' is that they are quite hard to put into one clearly identifiable category. Maybe just call it all 'prog' or 'miscellaneous'? :^)

@@MikeandGinger Massive Attack and Portishead are trip-hop bands from Bristol. They could almost be called pioneers of the sound, which included a lot of vinyl scratching and sampling. Liz Fraser and Beth Gibbons are trip-hop ICONS (Even though the former's from an 80's punk/gothic rock band). The whole Mezzanine album by Massive Attack is one of the greatest albums produced.

@leod24083 жыл бұрын
Trip hop (also known as Bristol Sound) is a genre of electronic music that originated in the early 1990s in the UK, especially in Bristol. The very term Trip hop was invented by the British music press to describe a new trend that was at full speed up and forward. Trip hop often has elements of breakbeats, and often contains samples from movies or other songs. Trip hop is considered a subgenre of downtempo.

Ok. Aurora - what to say - I become Agnes "It is so fluffy I'm gonna die!!!" (this clip is 10 seconds long and explains everything kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnSoh4eZgZaVgJI&ab_channel=o0oAnLio0o) So let me say something about Massive Attach. Just find their album "Mezzanine" and start it on track one. Which happens to be Angel. One of the best bass-lines to open an album ever, sucking you into a haunting opening song of one of the most perfect records ever. Just remember to buckle up when you hear "love you love you love you love" almost 2.5 minutes in. This is old-school compositions, where the hook of a song was allowed to be placed inside the song and not at the very start (because of modern algorithms and radio-rotation lists). Then you will be given Risingson, Teardrop and Inertia Creep on order. This is a line-up of songs in a row that very few bands can line up on their ultimate best-of album. Then follows Exchange and Dissolved Girl. This album is enough motivation to go for a drive and watch the sun-set (if you have a decent car sound-system). It is even a pandemic-certified thing to do :-) It is worth remembering, while maybe not as revolutionary as their album "Blue Lines", it was still ground-breaking. Which is easy to forget because they defined and redefined so much when they were released. After all, pretty much all their songs and structures and beats and movements have been mixed, remixed again, sampled and resampled so deeply that even songs you never heard before will make you go "I have heard this before". Trust yourself - you probably have. It was fusion on such a level that I have visited homes of jazz-musicians, classical musicians, heavy metal rock artists, electronica musicians AND troubadours and hip-hoppers and soul musicians - everyone has Massive Attack in their record collection. The first 3 albums of MA are things to play through without skipping a second. For us that grew up with it - That bass-line kicking off Mezzanine - it promises an hour of goodness. And if you do not belive me - these are the dudes who opened their debut record with "Same from Harm". I am gonna say this now - this song is 30 years old. This mix is 30 years old. The early 90s were an amazing period, not just because I was in my early 20s. The cold war ended, Blue Lines came out. Nirvana arrived, individually reshaping the landscape of music. Oh - yeah I was in my early 20s just about to travel the world as a student and young science researcher and white-water river-professional for a decade while going to concerts and listening to music like I was possessed - and still having time to read a massive amount of books AND being kissed by a girl while also going underground with fellow ravers. No wonder I am lazy aged 50. I am not sure I slept for a few years (without flicking any sort of recreational tablets or powders and whatnot). Aurora, She is so fluffy I am gonna die. And I saw her tweet today - her song "Runaway" is crashing into the top 100 list of the United Kingdom single-list at present. She wrote the song aged 11. It is the song that made Billie Eilish decide to pursue music as a child. And now it is "trending" UK pop-charts. As with all good art, time is just a concept. Interestingly this is also true for hard-core fundamental physics. I find some comfort in that, observing my belly 😀

Its kind of a fun fact. If you want to understand Auroras vocal prowess. Listen to her covers. Cos then you get a point of reference. Its easy to get a bit lost when just listen to her own "stuff" Listen to her pick apart someone elses music and then makes it her own. Pro tip though. Listen to the original first. No, just do it.
