😊👍 she wrote the song after learning that almost 70+ % of suicides are men. And she figured that men sometimes are discuraged from crying and showing emotions, because that could be seen as weakness. So she's telling us it's ok to cry and show emotions.

Yes, crying is a natural emotion and is a release. Sadly many societies see crying as a weakness, especially in men.

Who said that crying is "unmanly" and why is he just a jerk?

The song: From the Aurora Aksnes Wiki:- After the single's release, Aurora explained: "It's quite a happy song… it's been a while since I've had a joyful song so it feels very nice. It was inspired by something quite sad as I looked at the suicide rates on this planet and apparently 73% of them were men and then I thought, why is that the case? Then I realized, obviously, it must be because of the feeling that you can't talk about your emotions and show that you're in pain because pain is often associated with weakness but you know, here in my world it's not, so the song is inspired by something quite sad but it is also happy because crying can be such a positive experience, especially afterwards when you actually feel a bit lighter. It's about that feeling to let off some steam as they say here in England."

I was indifferent to this song until I saw her live last year. She started singing it off a darkened stage and slowly made an entrance as it lit up. Gave me shivers! It's now one of my favorites because of the memories it evokes.

I have this experience with some of her other songs, although this one clicked with me right away. She stumbled on the lyrics of this one when I watched her live last November. 😄

If you truly want to see what this song means to Aurora you have to react to her live performance in Bergen 2020 the emotions that are quite visibly to see from her in that performance are breathtakingly beautiful and speaks a thousand words why she is so special an artist, for me it’s at another level from anything I’ve seen in a long time from this amazing wonderful humble human soul.10/10 ❤️

When I watch the video with my emotions, I feel she painted a picture of what it feels like to repress the emotion and almost struggle against invisible walls to let it out. It can be something that feels a lot like the image of drowning in the river. Fear that you’ll drown, never able to come up for air but then the peaceful spent feeling once the river of tears has run dry. I wouldn’t necessarily apply literal-logic to the visuals but feeling-logic instead. A positive message that depicts the painful aspects of the issue and the process. 🤷♀️ Anyway, I love it. Thanks for the vid

Another great reaction. I think you got it, my interpretation, it’s about letting your emotions go and not holding them back, it’ll allow you to be more happy. For live a performance of this song, I’d recommend either HAIK in a forest or Bergen 2020 which is totally different as it’s with a full orchestra.

A nice 2 in one 1 reaction would be Aurora's In Bottles from 2019, and Kölsch's In Bottles from 2017. I believe it's technically a remix that literally came out 2 years before the song it remixed, which I'm pretty sure hasn't happened before.

Love your reactions to Aurora. You are correct with adding like a few have before noted , men are usually taught to not show emotion like crying and that it is not manly. This song is to all of us, to let our tears run wild that it is ok to feel and react , i mean everyone is allowed and if you want to cry and sob , you have every right to if you need to. Love and Light to all Hugs 🤗 💜💜💜💜💜💜 Thank you again ❤

What a terrific song and 'beats' as is said nowadays. Joss, thank you for your reaction to the Aurora music video for 'The River'. It is powerful in a self-love message which is so very much needed today. For a favorite live performance of mine, have a listen to this one from 7 July, 2019 at the Netherlands 'Down The Rabbit Hole' concert. Particular kudos to Silja's backing vocals - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYfMgGuHfLqMnKc

It is positive in the way, that you should let you show emotions (like crying but of course also others). She wrote it after she learn that most of the suicides are men. And she think (and i agree it is also a reason or at last part of reason) it is because men are not allowed to show emotions. This are the boxes or things that society force on us. How we should behave and what we can do or what we should not to do. But is it is human nature that we should show emotions as it is also good for us. Also video connected with message (and positive). She cuts emotions with scissors. And she does not give a chance to let them out as a flowers. And it can be bad (as we also see on video as it can even end tragically). And there is a scene where she throw out this scissors and let herself to show emotions.

I recommend making a reaction to one of the coolest female vocalists in the world. Diana Ankudinova - Queen of Goosebumps - Diana received such a title for her extraordinary unique voice. Diana's best performances - Derniere Danse, Wicked Game, Can't Help Falling in You Each of these speeches garnered over a thousand reactions. Diana is in the TOP 3 world vocalists in terms of the number of reactions (about 15 thousand reactions).

HeHeHe... so many excellent suggestions in these comments for the live version. Well, being myself a kind of "stripped versions" weirdo 🤓, I can't help (sorry...) but suggest the one from Cop26, Glasgow 2021 kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3mzeoOahc2IhpI .
