I've been listening to this song repeatedly since it was released and I think I finally understand the lyrics. It's about being held down by a spineless person. "I hide all the pieces that you never would have liked if you knew about them, so I hide my children" I sometimes feel that Aurora sees herself relating to a battered mother earth, exploited and destroyed by greed. All the way back to her songs Puppet and Runaway, there are themes of people controlling each other's lives.

Actually writing them is often just a scramble for words that fit and sound cool with only a rough meaning in mind. So aurora said that this song is connected to her old song "In boxes" Which is in my opinion. Is about a serial killer cutting out their victims and then placing them in a small boxes that they hide under their bed. I believe this song is about the victim's point of view. "Hide me Under your spine" Could also mean being hid under their bed if they're lying down. In which in this case being the boxes filled with those pieces of victims. "I will kindly watch you sleep" Maybe this line is actually sung by the relatives or close people of those victims. Could be trying to steal the boxes under the serial killer's bed to give them proper burial. I know it's pretty if not really dark. But, tbh at least it have a proper meaning that we can have fun to deduce lol. Also this is only my opinion so.

I'd say it's more Nordic folk influence than Arabian, especially with the use of the tonal modes, but saying that, there is a lot of crossover in sound quality between folk music of different countries

@@frogsoda It depends on the metric you use. Her music is transcendent, but also earthy. It is organic, but equally synthetic. A lot of it is sad, whilst somehow also being happy. I could go on like this all day. I think the best way to sum her music up is, 'Through contrast there is balance'... Like the musical equivalent of Yin and Yang. I think that is what makes her sound so compelling.

I think this song means a lot of different themes/like it being about a murderer/or being about talking with the dead/ but the one I see the most is someone trying to hide how they really are as a person and not knowing how to express there feelings and end up being cold and abusive to the people they care about as in the person is hiding the thoughts of how they feel about people and there self down there spine making them numb its song that hits to close to home for me but I love the song and I love that it was made by such a pure and care free happy smart person and I could see also how it could be about someone who is shameful about crying and put their tears in bottles in there head or trying to avoid feeling sad about a lost loved one either way its a beautiful song

Y'know i see people saying that this is related to 'In Boxes' like Aurora said. Quite literally that song is about a murderer and its victims. But im thinking that maybe the song, In Boxes, is about baggage. Trying to say farewell to certain baggage that affects you and leads to it affecting/hurting others as well. Maybe In Bottles relates to In Boxes in the way of bottling up your emotions in pushing it down "under your spine". In Boxes literally says "got them all collected in these boxes underneath my bed" which could be another analogy about hiding your emotions or keeping emotional baggage.
