Anytime I need to hear a soaring soprano with rich orchestration, I look for this video. The perfect marriage of voice and song.

Simply glorious. When a person has Kate Baldwin's talent, all you have to do is stand still to sing a great Bock and Harnick song. This is a splendid example of talent trusting material.

Thanks for posting this clip! I didn't realize until now that Sheldon Harnick made a slight alteration to the lyrics (either for this performance, or possibly the 2012 NYU one a few months before). I haven't been able to find other versions online that do this, since they follow the original lyrics from 1959. I guess Harnick decided that the reference to the vintage car model was a bit outdated (I had to look it up, and even an auto buff I know was uncertain). So it's great to have this for future reference. Terrific performance by Kate Baldwin. The real Marie (Mayor LaGuardia's second wife) told Mr. Harnick that "Thea was gorgeous", and this is certainly the case here. Original: “There he goes, Sir Galahad, Galloping off, riding his white Willys-Knight” New (2013): “There he goes, Sir Galahad, Who would have known he’d be my own rumpled knight”

A really smart comment, I learned something from it. Thanks.

As a car buff I got the reference, but certainly understand why it was altered. A Willys-Knight was a pretty obscure car even in 1959! (Not to mention that on the cast album it's mis-pronounced - it should be "Willis-Night" not 'Willie's Night"...again, I'm in that small Venn diagram overlap of car buffs and musical theater aficionados...) I'm sure the "white night"/Willys-Knight" thing was irresistible but if the people don't get it, the people don't get it. To quote the song, "that doesn't matter at all."

Epic. Her legit voice is a awe inspiring as her belt.

Agreed. And what I find most distinctive about her singing is her ability to employ an exciting belt edge while in soprano range.

There he goes, my congressman! Starting his day, hurrying right to a fight! There he goes, Sir Galahad! galloping off, riding his white Willys-Knight! Out of the house ten seconds, and I miss him. I miss him more, with each good-bye. Out of the house ten seconds, and I miss him. And no one's more astonished than I. I never once pretended that I loved him. When did it start, this change of heart? When did I fall in love? What night? What day? When did I first begin To feel this way? How could the moment pass? Unfelt? Ignored? Where was the blinding flash, Where was the crashing chord? When did I fall in love? I can`t recall, Not that it matters at all. It doesn`t matter when Or why, or how, As long as I love him now. When did respect first become affection? When did affection suddenly soar? What a strange and beautiful touch That I love him so much When I didn’t before... When did I fall in love? What night? What day? When did I first begin To feel this way? How could the moment pass? Unfelt? Ignored? Where was the blinding flash, Where was the crashing chord? When did I fall in love? I can`t recall, Not that it matters at all. I`m where I want to be, His love, his wife Until the end of... my life. Last Update: J
