Please also watch the video of Corey & Pim's finished house = S01E23.
Corey shows us around his brand new his house - a building still in progress. The foundations were laid only last November but Corey pushed ahead and ensured that his fruit and vegetable garden was prepared and finished before the house, so he is already busy in the garden.Corey's wife Pim is harvesting unripe papayas to make Thai som tam salad.
Corey spent more than 20 years as a medic in the Australian military before relocating and starting his new profession as a schoolteacher at a local bi-lingual school in Chiang Rai.

I enjoyed that and a nice guy Corey. We lived in CR and luckly still have a home there but move down south to one of the islands where we built a home. We moved because of education reasons because my son never settled in CR as he moved from Europe 3 years ago when he was 11 he loves the multi ethnic school here and has lots of friends. If I can give you a tip Corey put insulation on top of the suspended ceiling it will pay for it self in two years. We also put the foil in and the insulation and never use A/C. We love Phitsanulok always stay there on our trips North from Surat Thani and we will be back to live in CR soon....good luck with the rest of your build.

You've gotta have the outdoor kitchen for cooking the chillies. Interesting to see you used ACR blocks as most don't. They'll keep your house about 20% cooler than concrete blocks do. So much of that product used in Oz even commercial and industrial buildings. The Armstrong Family builders (USA) in Philippines are building magnificent homes with them. Good luck with it all Corey you deserve it mate. Bushyboy Oz.

Land prices have risen quickly since the end of COVID-19. We purchased ten Rai of farmland NE of Chiang at 300,000 Baht (@ Rai) five years ago. The house with two ponds is built on a filled and walled section. When I lived (8 years) in Bangkok, I rode to Kanchanaburi for ANZAC Day every year!

I can imagine that the end of COVID also coincided with a wave of westerners looking to reorient their lives, and some of whom relocated to Thailand.

@coreyhill7124
@coreyhill7124 6 ай бұрын
What do you mean by giving a Thai lady a free house?. We are married and both working and paying for the house, so as far as giving the "Thai Lady" a free house you couldn't be any further from the truth.
@gorgeousthailand4748
@gorgeousthailand4748 6 ай бұрын
@@coreyhill7124 I meant it in the context of foreigners can't own land in Thailand, so the property is therefore owned by your wife. If the land is leased, that's different. Married or not, everybody's future is uncertain, been there, done it. But anyway, good luck and I hope things work out well for you.

I absolutely know and acknowledge what you are saying, however, I was once married to a woman in Australia and I thought I would be entitled to something, lost everything .......no difference where you go.. I don't like how people generalize Thai women like ..." oh watch out you have a Thai wife you can lose everything"...it happens everywhere.@@gorgeousthailand4748

My wife uses it in, as she puts it, in "her food." I'm not sure of the actual names of the dishes but she boils the leaves down and adds them as an ingredient into the Thai dishes..

I guess that Thai people call cha- om has thorne. Eat fresh young tips dip with numprik or cook with eggs like omelette.

Oddly enough there is a window that transfers ownership of the land to the foreign spouse and that is upon death of the Thai partner, however even though you’ll own the land you cannot register it in name and as the law provides you’ll have one year as owner to sell or transfer the land to a Thai entity …

Leasehold or freehold?
@ancientbiker
@ancientbiker 6 ай бұрын
That's a good question although I expect that the whole notion of leasehold and freehold is very much an Anglo Saxon / English law concept. I know that some foreigners in Thailand get around the restriction on foreigners owning land by leasing the rights to it for 30 or 60 years. But in this case the land was bought by Corey's Thai wife so I expect that she owns it outright (i.e. freehold).
@ancientbiker
@ancientbiker 6 ай бұрын
I checked with Corey. As I thought it's 100% owned by his wife Pim. He had never heard of leasehold. I have a feeling that it's a leftover from feudal England.

@@ancientbiker Our house in Chiang Rai is also owned by my wife but there is a Usafruct on the Chanote that gives me the rights to live there till I die and can't be sold with out both our signatures . The land office in Mae Chan knew all about a Usafruct and no problem doing it.
@ancientbiker
@ancientbiker 6 ай бұрын
@@ColinC33 this "Usafruct on the Chanote" thing seems like a really sensible idea. If I ever find myself in the same situation I am sure that is what I would want to do too. Minimises the downside to having only nominal and tenuous ownership of a house.
