Animals can actually tell if you're sick or not based on your smell (their noses are much better than ours), but I'm not sure if they can tell if someone is mentally sick. Maybe by the way they behave..?

My dobe does the samething, starts on my hand and if not stopped he'll move all the way up to my neck. Ha! at >45kg or 100 lbs he thinks he's a lap dog. I'll admit it's far better than a weighted blanket. If anyone has restless legs or that horrid anxious tingling , pop a dog on there and it's like heaven. As I type he's laying across my legs and the only reason I get a few hours sleep.
