Hey mate I've found the same thing with my 85L bushman you can either have cold drinks and frozen food or food that's just right and lukewarm beers etc I bought one of those kings 30L draws just for drinks so the upright is only for food and that works really well. Also go to bunnings and buy some foilboard and cut them to size to insulate the canopy walls I did roof side walls doors and also underneath the floor panels helps with heat getting in and makes the fridges run way better ❤

you need air flow.. i have roof vents, no dust, no water, then fit a decent 6'' fan at rear to draw air out.. or whatever you think.. the vents are oval, stik up 1.5''.[ 35mm]. have a ridge inside to flow around hole. about 280mm, x 150..ish..ebay. a sealed canopy can get to 100 degrees.. fridges need air flow..

the tow bar is the worst bit when 4wding but I need it to tow my soft floor camper. Went from a roof top tent to soft floor camp trailer was the best upgrade I made so much easier when camping to leave everything set up and come back and not have to set up a roof top tent and the 3am piss after drinking a shit load off beers is so much easier with the camp trailer. Biggest weight loss I've done is swapping out 2x130ah agm batteries to 1 120ah lipo4 battery 70kg off batteries down to about 15kg and another 70kgs gone from removing draws and using bags to pack recovery gear and light weight plastic boxes for food.

Hi guys another great episode. I noticed the problem with the king's fridge and it's a very simple answer to why it used so much power and it's even easier to fix the issue. ( It may even make another video for you ) anyway the fridge will run more when full as the temperature sensor is generally blocked as such. If you get a small 40mm fan and install it ( takes about 30 min ) the air is circulated through the fridge reaching the sensor and reducing the run time. Mine now averages around 17 ah per day

In an ideal world, rollers would be fine. And if you only winch with the rope extending in a perfectly straight line, they will work just fine. The issue is the overlap between vertical and horizontal rollers isn't that big, so if you need to pull on weird angles or there's slack in the rope as you bring in tension and aren't paying attention, there are pockets you can pinch the rope into. Steel wire being not so flexible tends to poke straight out which is why it doesn't tend to have that issue.

Getting rid of the steel cable and roller fairlead was the best thing I ever did. I knew the winch cable would weigh a bit, but was surprised that the fairlead was over 5kg! All up lost over 15kg off the front of the Rodeo which was noticeable in how the car handled.

Another option I have found for running audio from your UHF I have done ran the aux port on the back of the UHF all the way to the radio just to play voice through the extra speakers I have in the car works a treat

There's a fan for the kings and bushman's 85L that mounts inside to assist with temp regulating and the freezer frosting up. Plus adding venting to your canopy will help any fridge

Just from experience with using rope with a roller fairlead check that the rope can't bind in the corners and tear, Moving the outer rollers in can solve it if it's an issue or just change to a solid one

Don’t get a solar blanket! They are usually not IP rated. So as soon as it rains you have poor performance (or none). Get an IP67 rated flexible folding plastic one. They are similar in size, just a bit heavier. Mine is also easy to pair with another, and also didn’t come with a regulator - which is good as the one on my dcdc charger is better anyway. plus i can thus easily see (remotely) how it’s charging. And yes, 4wd SS solar blankets can’t get wet! They are a tad evil on this, as there isn’t even fine print that says not to…. they just DON’T say you CAN get it wet!! Good thing it never rains in situations when you need a solar blanket…

You say you have plenty of room on the drum for more rope / thicker rope, BUT remember the maths of winch drums. The closer the current pulling line is to the centre of the drum, the more power it has. Also the slower it moves. Every extra wrap OR thickness in rope diameter moves that position further out which reduces the pulling strength. Rule of thumb is 10%-15% loss for every wrap over the first layer, about 500kg on a 12,000lbs (~5,400kg) rated winch assuming 10% loss.

I’m running two seperate GME XRS units in my Prado 150 which comes in super handy for long road trips out remote touring, keeping an ear on the truckies channel and the other on scan. I also keep an older GME 5w handheld in the car too, just in case…. I like GME lol.

Upright fridge is all the rage these days in the canopy set, but they suck for losing cold air when you open the door.

This doesn't matter, as it's the stuff inside the fridge that's already cold, so as soon as you close the door, the temperature will equalise quickly, unless you leave the door open for 5 minutes with a drop down type fridge, you lose more cold air because you are rooting around removing stuff trying to get to the stuff you want, which is always on the bottom.

@@-PORK-CHOP- You're delusional - yes it does matter. Opening the door for even a very short time will see all the cold air drop out. The warm air will have to be cooled again by the compressor, not by the stuff already in the fridge. Of course, while the compressor is churning away draining your battery, the cold stuff will transfer cold to the new air, meaning the cold stuff will warm up a bit, and have to be cooled again by transfer of the new cooling the compressor provides. Simple thermodynamics, mate.

Just a heads up, Hope the exhaust does not cause co2 to enter the cab, depending on the design of the vehicle a short exhaust can allow fumes to enter the cab.... can cause driver to loose conciseness!

I think Patrick needs to go for a tough tourer light weight setup. I was thinking fridge slider with a regular slider next to it and a single mattress on one side of the cab with more stuff he needs next to it. That way he can remove the rtt. Also instead of a serperste sub tank a bigger main tank is better as the weight is in the middle on the car as to it being in the back.

A great fairlead option is a US company called Yankum Ropes. They have one called the groove fairlead that is a 100% metal-less system just the eye on the end of the rope. It's a pretty sweet set up.

To clarify that, the rope is metal-less. The fairlead is still made out of metal. And the rope uses a soft eye loop, the eye loop on the rope they installed has a metal piece in it, but that can be removed of course. The convenience of a metal hook can't be understated, I can grab a tree strap and my wireless remote, walk the line out and just snap the hook on. With the metal-free system, I have to also use a soft shackle which takes a little time to do. The big question is, is convenience more important than safety? You might think the answer is that safety is the MOST important thing. But humans tend to be lazy, so a somewhat safe option that gets used is better then a very safe option that is ignored for an even more dangerous but convenient option. That tow ball looks SO convenient for hooking a snatch strap too, especially if you have to remove the tow hitch and swap out a recovery hitch, hook up a soft shackle etc. Convenience is why people like Matt's Off-road Recovery use pintle hooks for snatch rope on their vehicles. It's rated higher and (most of the time) locks the rope in, but it's fast and easy to use. A good balance of safety and convenience.

Not sure if anyone commented on this but you miss two major issues on putting a different diameter wheel on the rear and that’s having an LSD. If you have a significant diameter difference you’ll damage the clutch in the diff. Now if you have a diff lock well I wish you good luck on not twisting an axel shaft. Good vid as always guys

I'm itching to get rid of the steel on my old IronMan winch but any workshopw I approach always suggest just replacing the winch. Upright fridges work better with airflow so you shouldn't pack them tight like you would a chest fridge. Cold air needs to drop from the top to the bottom. A small fan helps also.

Upright fridges are not very efficient because when you open the door all the cold air falls straight out of them. You must be quick in & out of upright fridges. Yep way to go with rotation. 👍

Rouge industries fan for the fridge mate I own the same fridge and installed one of there fans and wired to cycle with the compressor made a huge difference. No affiliation to the company just a solid product.
