Hi Gavin. This is looks really useful. Just one question, when the node is embedded into a script how do I stop the Excel file from opening when the script runs? The excel file will be useful to me, but might be seen as slightly annoying for everyone else in my office 😃. Cheers, and Happy New Year.

Unfortunately I don't think Dynamo ootb has a way to stop this. An alternative method might be using the write csv node instead, this wont open and can be created without a template file to copy.

@@AussieBIMGuru thanks, I came to the same conclusion, but did have success (like you hinted) with a custom package (Bumblebee). I will take a look at the write CSV node you mentioned. Thanks again for all your fantastically useful videos.

@@scotttomlinson6874yes bumblebee works for this, but I would recommend against nesting its nodes in a custom node as this introduces package dependencies.

@@AussieBIMGuru thanks for the heads-up on that.. I ended up pulling the Python code out of the BB node, which should solve the problem. I'm managing the package libraries within my office, so it shouldn't have been a problem, but good practice anyway 👍

I have had the same issue, people in the office could get a bit upset by all those excel files being opened every time they run a script. I used the same solution, taking the bumblebee python code outside. Anyway, once again, amazing and extremely usefull video. Thx!

Hello, the .py script for for "dynamoAPICurrentGraphName" looks like it doesn't work for py3 on Dynamo 2.13. Any idea how to find a new py that works or fix that one? Thank you so much for your videos! :)

Unfortunately I don't use Cpython3 as it has too many discrepancies and limitations. You could try this approach instead, which mainly uses csv writing packages and then the forums for any issues you find from there I guess: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYqplnyGeNemeZY

@@AussieBIMGuru why did you decided to make single log in Excel sheet instead of simple .txt file?
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 5 жыл бұрын
@@Mountainboarderr easier for the files to be viewed by basic users, and it also prevents the risk of file deletion. I also use this to sub-file into other reports such as a single month vs all journal files. TXT/CSV or an sql database are definitely viable methods though!

Hi, Gavin. Thanks for this video, amazing job. Do you know if it possible to get the Autodesk ID instead of the username of the machine you are using? Greetings from Mexico.
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Horacio! Indeed you can, it is a property of the UI application which can be found via python using the '.username' method. See dimitar's post in this thread for the code; forum.dynamobim.com/t/how-to-get-current-username-by-python/20568

@@AussieBIMGuru Excellent, I did found the python script in Dynamo Forum. forum.dynamobim.com/t/get-the-revit-user-name/3481 and it worked!

Hey Gavin! How are you? I'm just passing by to make a brief contribution to the script. I found this Python that closes the active excel: forum.dynamobim.com/t/read-excel-file-node-opens-excel-file/7813/7?u=luupieper, it seems to me that it is a good closure for the problem of excel opening while running the custom node.

Thanks Luisa, I stumbled across this also recently. If I remade this script I would likely use this in a Python + custom node to solve this problem. Might remake this for Crumple at a later date :)
