An awesome way to kick off a frantic autumn of rut hunting. I had generous access to some private country with the intent of getting the first venison of the year. I managed much more than just a freezer filling mission, excellent natural times!

Well done down here in Tassie rut is protected that’s why the quality of fallow stags is consistently higher than in the rest of Australia fallow stags are at there most vulnerable it was proposed by the governments deer plain to allow the shooting of stags in the rut period but the fears opposition to the proposal made them see common sense and continue protection of the stags after the 5 week season thank god for that , reports of several stags that were taken around 240 to 250 would of been a thing of the past

handguns would be a lot more practical and safer for dealing with the possibility of a feral pig etc still being alive. better for dispatching than using a rifle.

Man, I loved rifle hunting for like 30 years. Killed a ton of everything. I gave it up except for coyotes. Too many. Killing too mana you deer fawns and beef calves. I only bow hunt for the last 30+ years. Just saying- not being hateful nor disrespectful of your rifle hunting. But have you tried bow hunting? You will love it. Be safe Mr.

Noah I’d just get a Victorinox skinning knife, larger than most compact options but good quality steel, easy to work with, and not pricey. Would be easy to get a boning know and a sharpening steel with it too as a combo, king of knifes have them I think

Sorry Peter just saw this mate. Actually no not a new rifle, I just did a full custom job on my old Rem 7mm08. She’s an absolute tack driver now. If you look back through previous vids you’ll see the video where I give it a full make over.

Hey Chris, I estimate distance up to 200m which is the most I have allowed myself to shoot at. With a flat shooting cal like my 7.08 I don’t make compensation for distance until 150m plus, in which case I just aim at the top of the kill zone. I have however been looking at some shots on reds and sambar which would be between 250 - 350m. Upgrades to the rifle would come first but I’d likely use a rangefinder in that situation
